RUMOR: Apple to announce Verizon iPhone on January 27th

“A tablet still might not be the only new hardware we see from Apple next week — the rumor mill is still churning out news that the “one more thing” next week will be a brand new version of the iPhone, set up on the Verizon network,” Mike Schramm reports for TUAW.

“It comes not from an anonymous source, but Canaccord Adams analyst Peter Misek,” Schramm reports. “If you ask me, this is one too many rumors not to be true — eventually, we’ll see an iPhone on the Verizon network. But I’m hesitant to agree it’ll be announced as early as next week.”

  1. “I thought that AT&T;had a five year deal with apple. If so will everybody please stop saying that Verizon will have the phone in the near future.”

It was believed that Apple and AT&T had a five year–I’m not sure it’s true. That said, I believe they renegotiated the deal.

Originally, AT&T did not subsidize the iPhone. That’s when the iPhones cost $499 and $599, I believe. Since the iPhone took off, AT&T wanted to get in on it so the renegotiated the deal, which may have meant that Apple reduced the time that it would be “exclusive.”

Of course, I have hard time buying that Apple will do a CDMA phone–especially with the “Hey, want to surf the net and talk on the phone?” advertisements.

Of course, I also said Apple will never go to Intel, so my track record isn’t all that hot…

  2. We have 2 1/2 years to go before the rumor that got started 2 1/2 years ago has run its course so Verizon can get this rumored iPhone. Unless one goes by the other rumor from 1/2 year ago that invalidates the rumor from 2 1/2 years ago, or if you… ah fuhget about it!

  3. lmao @cynic

AT&T;and Verizon will both soon be charging for tiered usage, so your argument goes out the window. Actually maybe not – since you actually have to have coverage to rack usage bills, maybe you’l be safe on your AT&T;network.

  4. “If you ask me, this is one too many rumors not to be true…”

Well, there’s faulty logic for you. If enough people create rumors, reality will capitulate.

“…eventually, we’ll see an iPhone on the Verizon network.”

Now that’s going out on a limb…not! Eventually Verizon and other telecom providers will settle on a new worldwide standard and all wireless devices could theoretically work on any network. So, yes, eventually, at some point, perhaps… Until it actually happens (or, apparently, until a sufficient quantity of rumors have been logged) I won’t waste much time pondering that topic.

  5. I have never seen so many people not know anything than most of you…..if you are going to act like you know something then read from many site source…….its called diversification!

Where I live Verizon is numero uno for service and AT&T;is as reliable as your slimy cousin Tony with his 5 lbs. of hair product. AT&T;is GSM, Verizon is CDMA…..and yes there is a Qualcomm worldmode chip either made or in progress, supposively Apple didn’t like “something” about the chip according to some analyst, but it is worth noting that Apple had a job posting last year for a CDMA Engineer on their career section, so take it for what its worth….how about we shut our mouths and just wait to see what happens. Now with that said, I am a huge apple fan and a huge verizon fan for my area and I have never had problems whether here or on vacation in Mexico. Lets sit back take in what the analyst have to say and get the final from Steve Jobs.

@Cinic – If VZ and Apple work a deal out do you really think Apple would allow the VZ store on their phone? Not hardly my friend. Verizon knows they screwed up from the first negotiations when Apple wanted VZ in the first place and not second rate AT&T;. Word is….it is down to pricing on subsidized price in their “rumored” talks.

  6. Why would Apple who think global market spend the R&D;for two systems CDMA and GSM? it doens’t doesn’t make sense. Why have a separate model for such a small portion of the World Market?
CDMA usage is declining every year world wide. I think the US and China are the only significant markets. Verizion and Sprint users are simply out of luck. T-Mobile and AT&T;are the only US carriers that are on GSM.

  7. iPhone Verison? Wonder if Peter Misek is fomenting for a buddy or his employer Canaccord Adams to short Apple, Verison or maybe both.

Now there is a fomenting scheme that the FTC and SEC need to take a much much closer look at. I’d say that Peter Misek and his employer Canaccord Adams needs the shoulder length rubber glove look see to what other illegal fomenting scheme they got going on or have pulled in the past. UK Trading and Investment Regulators would be wise to take a look at them as well. Open wide and say, “No lube”.

It will just take one of two very public investigations and a seriously big fine or two and maybe an analyst to spend a few months in prison and loss a license. Nothing the industry would be harmed over just a bit of law enforcement and house cleaning.

Personally I’d like to see the whole lot of Investment analyst lined up on Wall Street and Publicly Flogged, tar and feathered and than run into the Hudson River on a Rail (a nice big Concrete one!). I’d then publicly tell all the CEO’s of all the Investment Banks, Brokerage houses, Hedge Funds… That if any company hires for such a position and then that persons comments, analyst, speculation or wishful thinking is ever and in any way ever made public the CEO will then pay the price by getting the same punishment as the analysts just received.
