“It was Lyons, writing as Fake Steve Jobs, who on Monday had encouraged iPhone owners to overwhelm AT&T’s network by turning on a data-intensive app and running it for an hour. Operation Chokehold, as he dubbed it, was intended as a protest against AT&T’s threatened imposition of data usage fees,” Elmer-DeWitt reports. “By Wednesday, after the FCC’s chief of homeland security bureau issued a stern warning, Lyons began to have second thoughts.”

Why would anyone purposely crippled their own network? Seems self-defeating to me.
Compared to my old service with Verizon, I have:
1. A better phone
2. Web access included
3. Decent call plan for my usage
4. Can listen to my own music on the phone
5. Can watch my own movies on the phone
6. Can play games for free or a reasonable one-time fee
7. Phone service is okay but I’m not a heavy user
8. Text messaging is easier
9. Have built in maps and bought a reasonably priced GPS navigator app.
All of this for ~ 30 bucks more a month. Now I call that a good deal.
It seems dumb to protest data limitations, ones that telecoms claim are necessary to prevent overloading the system, by overloading the system, and there by proving the telecoms’ point.

Don’t count on it. Other carriers are not stupid, they learned from mistakes made by others.
These other carriers will introduce caps and enforecements from day 1.
Freeloaders will have to stick with ATT if it can’t do the same.
