Washington Apple Store employee walk-out canceled

“After rumors of an employee walk-out at a Washington [state] Apple Store arose, numerous people familiar with the matter have told AppleInsider the issue has been resolved,” AppleInsider reports.

“Earlier this week, claims of a potential demonstration among employees and ex-workers of the Alderwood Mall store in Lynnwood, Wash., surfaced. Sources have now told AppleInsider that while some issues with the store management remain, the alleged walk-out, reportedly planned for Oct. 3, is no more,” AppleInside reports.

AppleInsider reports, “One source said that while the situation might have warranted a walk-out, most of the workers at the Alderwood Mall store would not have participated.”

    “…wait a minute, fellow reporters – this isn’t Mount Everest we’re climbing, it’s just a molehill! We’ve been duped!”

  2. I heard that Steve Ballmer met with them all personally, gave them a rousing pep talk, and tried to recruit them for one of the new Microsoft Stores.

    They realized that they didn’t have it so bad after all. ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”wink” style=”border:0;” />

  3. Typical Apple Store Manager makes $100,000/year + big bonuses. Average Apple Store employee makes $30,000 to
$50,000/year with NO commisions & few bonuses. WALKOUT! Without people standing together ( unions ) all of us would not have overtime, holiday pay, sick leave, paid holidays off, workman’s comp.,8 hour shifts + breaks, child labor laws. Stand tall, stand firm, unite!

  4. Apple brags that it’s waist to get into Harvard that Apple Retail. Do you think they could replace a store full of employees quickly then? GUT the management 2-3 people, change policies, bring in people from Cupertino & start over as if this is a brand new store!

  5. to the dumb ass employees:

    YES apple can replace you
    YES you are expendable
    YES life moves on
and YES you are idiot that in a crappy recession that you are complaining while you HAVE A JOB!!! and you have job security too. If you’re personally unhappy and think the grass is greener on the other side, then do everyone a favor and QUIT.. and don’t be a little pussy and try to get everyone to join you because you’re unhappy. (note: most people who live with the “grass is greener on the other side” usually always realize the mistake later.

  6. @ UM,

    Yes, you are right.
And from what I’ve seen in many Apple Stores, I’m not one bit surprised.
I blame the Apple vs PC commercials for that.
The smugness is funny on TV, it’s not in the stores.
And this story fits my perspective of what I’ve experienced there.

  7. I’m going to New York and see the new Broadway store, and maybe the Fifth Avenue store, . . . and to top it off, . . . B&H;Photo.

I’ll bet that opening of the Broadway store will be a humdinger. . . . You people are old enough to know what a humdinger is aren’t you?

  8. “Without people standing together ( unions ) all of us would not have overtime, holiday pay, sick leave, paid holidays off, workman’s comp.,8 hour shifts + breaks, child labor laws. Stand tall, stand firm, unite!”

You say this like this is a good thing! It would be nice if Americans actually worked at their jobs. Don’t even get me started on the teachers union. My kids have more days off in the first 6 weeks of school than I had in an entire year. It’s disgraceful.

  9. Since no one here knows the exact problem at that particular store I think it is unwise to make judgements on anyone (manager or peon). Also, I have not worked at an Apple store so I can’t say what the working conditions are.

As a small business owner, I know how important it is for my employees to present a good face to the customer all the time. I tell them if they have any problems with ANYTHING to first come to me to solve it quietly and properly. No need in getting other employees and/or customers involved. Ever heard the axiom “One bad apple spoils the whole bushel?” Really true in most businesses.

I don’t go into Apple stores too often, probably 3 or 4 times a year. Every time I have been there I have not seen any employees with bad attitudes (some maybe tired from a really hectic day, but still nice). Or maybe I’m excited to go there and what I am expecting (a fantastic, fun-filled visit) is what I see.

Lastly, 30-50k per year in retail is not too shabby, try working other retail jobs earning 15 to 25k year with tons of pressure (drug store, grocery, mass merch., etc) —-can you say WALMART. YEAH, RIGHT!!!! (Store Managers of most chain drug stores make 30 to 50k a year if they are lucky)

A manager capable of running an efficient, pleasing, upscale mulit-multi-million dollar store is worthy of a significant salary. I know senior management doesn’t want to have to worry about the day to day mundane operations and are willing to pay good money.
