  1. 1. Be careful when purchasing from MacMall.
    2. I purchased a New MacBook from MacMall
    3. It had many problems, they said it was New, then admitted they may have sent a rebuilt.
    4. MacMall said they would replace it with a New MacBook.
    5. I recorded the serial number when I returned the MacBook
    6. They sent the same MacBook ( same serial number) with a New Plastic Cover.
    7. Still had problems. I will never never Purchase from them again.

    Just be forewarned…..

  2. It’s been quite sometime since I last purchased anything from MacMall, but I did quite a few times over the years, including my first iMac.

I never had any issues with them, and hopefully MACK’s experience was a limited occurrence.

  3. I was planning on buying an iPod touch for my daughter. Since they left the camera out, I am holding off. It is nuts that the lower priced product has the camera and the top end iPod does not. I will admit that I am rarely disappointed by Apple but this time I am. The FlipHD device is doomed. Who will buy them now when you can get an iPod with FM radio for less money?

  4. I had a similar experience as Mack, but with PowerMax from Oregon. I ordered a PowerBook, and was not told it was used! This was many years ago, but I have never bought from them again… Hmmm, so far, MacMall has been okay for me, but to send someone a used Mac when they think they are buying new is really inexcusable.

  5. While we’re on the subject of sh*tty customer service…

Powermax & Powerbook Medic suck ass. I had Macbooks serviced by both companies. I will NEVER use them again.

If you value your sanity, do not *ever* get your Mac serviced by them.

I should probably start a class-action lawsuit. I still have e-mail collaberation from them and will share if anyone is interested.

MaWo: ‘ever’. And i *mean* eh-ver…

  6. Mack,
What is wrong with you? You numbered each sentence for some reason. Then left the period off of two out of seven sentences. Was the issue with MacMall customer service or your unintelligible writing?

Oh, and “fandango”. Do you even know what a class action lawsuit is for? If you have such bad luck buying on line then buy locally and shut the fuck up.

  7. @gregmills: It is nuts that the lower priced product has the camera and the top end iPod does not.

No, it’s not. The lower-priced product has a sh*tty toy camera (video-only, no autofocus). If they had put that camera in the touch, there would be nothing but whining about how the camera isn’t as good as the one in the iPhone.

Doesn’t your daughter have a cellphone? If so, she already has a camera about as good as the one that could have been in the touch. Why would the lack of another camera be a showstopper when it comes to buying a media player?

  8. OK, number one- (just joking)…

I guess we’ll have to be patient and once again wait till they resolve the video camera issue with the Touches. I, too, will postpone my purchase until they do. My crappy little Sprint phone can take both photos and videos, I would expect an iPod Touch to also. And I am also not interested in buying a single game for it, that’s not my interest. I will surely shell out big bucks for the Beatles box set, but have no interest in the rock game. That was a pretty weird excuse from Steve- if they can sell iPod Touches with space for a missing video camera for $199, I will gladly pay a bit more for one which has it. I am not in the market for a gaming machine.

  9. @auramac: There is no video camera issue with the iPod Touch. Apple does not want to sell you an iPod Touch that has basic features like those found in your Sprint phone.

They want to upsell you to an iPhone and enjoy the much better profit stream that you would generate for them.

We may be waiting a long time for a camera in the iTouch. That is, unless there are a lot of folks like you and me who will not be upsold to an iphone and sales of the iTouch lag quickly.

  10. I’ve not used MacMall, but I’ve used Powermax many times over the years since 2001. All new purchases were fine. The customer service was great.

I’ve never bought refurbs from anyone but Apple.

As for the iPod upgrades. Nice to have FM on one. I’m not much of a picture taker but the camera is useful also.

  11. Eh, ok, MacMall has the worst customer service out there. I would know, I worked there for over 4 years.

Macmall will not take back, or exchange an apple product if defective out of the box, good luck. And as for good pricing, I was constantly told to rip people off on shipping charges to raise margins since our cost on products was inflated.

Don’t tell me about MacMall, I know all about it, and way more than you do.

MDN word: better, as in, find some place better to buy from, like direct from Apple.com
