“MacRumors has received word that Apple seeded OS X Leopard 10.5.8 Build 9L30 to developers last night, including only a single documented change related to an issue with external monitors and waking from sleep mode,” Eric Slivka reports for MacRumors. “There are reportedly no listed outstanding issues in the latest build.”
“Apple’s previous seed of 10.5.8 (Build 9L29) was pushed to developers just five days earlier, and the single increment in build number between the two releases suggests that Apple may be very close to completing work,” Slivka reports.

Apple should cease efforts to develop updates to Leopard and focus on Snow Leopard’s replacement.
Spoken by someone who obviously owns an Intel-based machine. As someone with a couple of three-year-old G5s, I applaud Apple for continuing to polish what’s already a pretty smooth OS. I’m hoping to get another couple of years of use out of my G5. Since I can’t afford to buy new at this time (thank you, economy), I hope Apple keeps updating Leopard as long as they can!
It’ll be released just as “imminently” as its predecessor!
…so, give it another month or so…
@ Amazing and @Amazing. the next major OSX release will incorporate P.A Semi conductor chips.
The inclusion of said chips will bring to an end the Pshyter problem as only products with a bespoke PAS chip will run OSX.
Resulting in a seismic shift akin to when Apple Computers acquired Next Computers and installed NextStep as the basis for all future OS’s
Can someone direct me to the nearest asylum please?
@ Crabapple
Um.. how the hell do you include hardware chips in a software update?
Wasn’t it “imminent” about two weeks ago?
My Guess would be: First Friday in September (Sept. 4, 2009 at 8PM) for the Snow Leopard Release.
An Apple Special Event will occur on September 2, 2009 when Steve Jobs announce new iPods and updates, Apple TV Updates, Snow Leopard Release information and may even a One More Thing.
It will be held at Apple’s Campus unless it’s expected to be a big turn out for the event then it will be held at Moscone Center. Unless Apple wants to keep it a small event being Steve’s first official company event.
I still think there will be a 10.5.9. SL probably won’t be release until 2 months from now (end of September) and Apple has released a dot update after a major update (and then just security updates). I believe they did this with Tiger when Leopard was released.
@ken1w,
“Wasn’t it “imminent” about two weeks ago?”
Those people obviously were not preeminent.
I hope Demon is correct. Sounds like a fun event – lots of new stuff and The Steve all in one package. I’ll watch that one.
Actually, I own a seven year old 17-inch iMac with 1 GHz PPC G4 with 768 MB DDR SDRAM. Apple needs to push the envelope and divorce itself from legacy software. I also hope to purchase a new Mac, perhaps late 2009 or early 2010.
I recognize that my machine has significant hardware limitations, but this is the path I have chosen. Apple shouldn’t feel obligated to support machines that have no adaptive capacity. I can afford to live with my obsolete machine for a few more months, Apple can’t
As an Apple business end-user since 2001, I find that some of my old Macs are running rather slowly now. My “half moon” iMac G4 800ghz 15 inch and Powerbook 12 inch aluminum G4 are pretty well at the end of their lives. Even surfing the web is way too slow.
OK… they are a bit old, but…
I’m even noticing a significant slowdown in my latest: a MacBook Pro 15 inch purchased in Sept 2008.
I hope that the new Snow Leopard is as * snappy * as we hear, with a trimmed down code that rocks.
I hope.
@Old Guy
Your MacBookPro should not be slowing unless you have 80% filled the hard drive.
I’m hoping it will be a snappy release.
@ Bob:
I think he meant that Snow Leopard will include dependencies for Apple’s custom chip.
Imminence is a rather relative term.
10.5.7 screwed up my fans … I’m not bothering updating till SNOW
@Eric – So you’re saying that further 10.5 updates will receive a *chilly* reception from you? Nyuk nyuk.

“Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.8 release imminent?”
Déja vu man. I saw that headline last week! Or maybe I traveled back in time! Wow man. Must be the weed.
As ever, never bother reading an article that has a headline ending in a question mark.
