O2 and Apple to offer subsidized MacBooks to mobile broadband customers?

“O2 is believed to be looking to capitalise on its relationship with Apple by bringing the manufacturer’s laptops to its customers,” Mobile Today reports.

“The idea is to bundle laptops with fixed and mobile broadband. The laptops wouldn’t be free, but would be subsidised under the scheme. O2 and Apple are understood to be discussing a deal,” Mobile Today reports.

“Apple’s ‘Macbooks’ have been a huge hit with Apple fans and have managed to switch people that are used to Windows laptops and PCs,” Mobile Today reports. Such a deal would “guarantee a dramatic acceleration in O2’s broadband run-rate.”

  1. Orange in France is already having this deal way before iPhone came into the picture. This is an offer combined with ADSL offering. My dad is having is second MacBook with this offer.

    They said “mobile broadband'”, so presumably they are talking about using one of those mobile broadband modems that plug into a USB port. Simpler than tethering.

    I agree that the advancing Macs is great.

  3. It makes sense for Apple to do this as all the mobile broadband operators are offering free or subsidised laptops with their contracts over here in the UK, it will open up the possibility of owning a mac to a wider range of people
