Synchronoss hurt by lost Apple iPhone activation business

“Synchronoss (SNCR) [yesterday] posted Q2 revenue of $24.3 million and profits of 11 cents a share, about in line with the Street at $24.6 million and 9 cents,” Eric Savitz blogs for Barron’s.

“The company noted that revenue growth in the quarter ‘was materially impacted by reduced revenue associated with the Apple iPhone,'” Savitz reports. “U.S. buyers of the first-generation iPhone registered their phones for AT&T service through Synchronoss; but AT&T and Apple did not use their services for registration of 3G iPhones.”

  1. It’s amazing how much a company’s bottom line can be affected by losing business with Apple. Niche player my ass!

Hey, Mozfan, welcome back! I still remember me and few others here helping you out on a Saturday a few years back with some keyboard shortcuts you couldn’t figure out (you’re wife was the all-knowing MacHead and was out of town, if I remember right).

    Hehe – I said head.

  2. Good Morning Cubert,

Yes, I remember. I’m always a little lost when she’s not around, but at the time, I was still learning my way around the Mac.

I am proud to say that I can now perform feats of wonder that astound my PC using co-workers without ever touching the mouse. (In fact they were dazzled by the Mac’s ability to accept voice commands, too.)

Now, as a Mac Evangelist, I have switched almost a dozen people including family and co-workers. It is a great feeling.

That was one of the things I loved about the Mac from the start. In addition to being the most intuitive clean interface ever, the family of users is always ready to help out someone whose “seen the light”.

    Help is (still) always appreciated.

  3. @ PC Apologist

“Apple was hurt more than Synchocross.” Can you tell us precisely HOW? They sold almost twice as many phones in the first week as in the rollout of the first iteration. Demand far exceeds supply right now to an astonishing (and frustrating) degree. And they’re producing 800,000 units per week, which also is mind-boggling for a one-year-old device.

Are you saying the above numbers could have been even greater? What is your point?

  4. Mozfan,
Spaces (especially dragging a window to the edge of the desktop, which causes the desktop to shift to the next space over, dragging the window with it) and the things you can do using only keyboard gymnastics are the two that always impress my PC-using friends.

  5. Wow, I just tried it with my normal “English” voice. Amazing, it actually works nowadays!

I remember years ago when I tried to use voice commands and it just didn’t understand me (I don’t really have a strong colloquial accent). Basically, without an American accent results we’re very patchy.

I kinda felt like a real nob talking to my computer with an American accent just to launch Photoshop or empty the wastebasket!!!

Actually I preferred it when it was called the wastebasket over here.

I mean, if any of the Americans on here could imagine having to talk like Hugh Grant to get their Mac to do things your mates would piss themselves hearing you. I never bothered after that. But now it actually understands me. Schweet.

I wonder if a Brummie or a Scouse accent will confuse it?

  6. Cubert, I’ve found that running my Mac without a single virus impresses of users (that and the fact that it “just works”.

British Mac Head, sorry, but that did make me laugh. And please, no scouse unless it’s from Wayne Rooney.

    Forever United!

  7. United?! Oh no, not in MDN too! You guys are everywhere aren’t you, just like pests!
