“If you’re a serious runner, you’ve no doubt already heard of Nike’s excellent pairing with Apple’s iconic music player. What you may not know is that now the system is compatible with several other workouts such as elliptical machines, stair steppers or stationary bikes,” Brian Walker reports for TheStreet.com.
“For traditional running, your special running shoes communicate with your iPod, telling it how far you’ve gone and at what pace. The iPod can then download that information onto your computer and keep track of workouts in an included program, as well as create custom workout playlists with your music,” Walker reports.
“Recently, Nike and Apple went a step further and rolled out fitness machine tie-ins. Now at select gyms that carry the proper equipment you can plug your iPod into the machine and have it keep track of stats unique to that particular exercise,” Walker reports.
“Workout tracking technology isn’t limited to just the runners anymore,” Walker reports.

The Nintendo Wii Fit is also mentioned too.
Just another example of Apple and Nintendo being recongnized for innovative products.
Peace.
You don’t need “special shoes” like they say, just the little pod thing that goes into/onto any shoes you want to use. Or, you can buy their “special shoes” if you really want to.
The thought occured to me several weeks ago
They need to enable the iPhone and create a Nike+ app so that all the info you need is right their. Syncing is anticlimactic. We’ve got the friggin’ app store – build an app!
ohhhh! I’m so fat buecause I don’t make any exercise because I am playing iPhones games all the time…. I’m fat because of apple… (lol)
@Bunsen Honeydew
Yes I agree, amazing Apple and Nike weren’t out of the starting gate with a Nike +iPhone App
@Bunsen Honeydew
Especially with the GPS in the 3G model to track and map your routes, it’s a natural.
When are they going to friggin’ make a cycling app!? I guess there’s just no commercial motive for Nike to do it, but Apple needs to pair with someone else… including, perhaps, Garmin, which already has a GPS-enabled cycling computer.
A GPS+google maps aware iPhone app (plus a means to clip it on your bike) that tracks and perhaps wirelessly uplinks your data as you go would be incredibly useful and cool for those of us who prefer to bike instead of run.
Anyone care to program this….? Bueller…?
Nike makes crap.
I bought a pair of their shoes and they fell apart within a month.
Fool me once, shame on you.
Fool me twice, shame on me.
I won’t get fooled again.
I’d only buy this if it had a free ‘video workout’ for my iPod featuring Jesse Ventura as Captain Freedom. He’ll make a gosh darned tyrannosaur out of you!
