‘Zune Tattoo Guy’ dumps Zune for Apple iPod touch

“Steven Smith, aka, the Zune Tattoo Guy or Mszunefan has abruptly ended his man-love obsession with all things Zune, willfully defecting to the tender Touch of Apple’s iPod after realizing Zune sucks. Smith was no casual Zune zombie, he was the most recognized Zune fanatic in the product’s history along with being a regular Zune Scene forum contributor and a three time tattooed fan boy. In his forum summary he appropriately listed his position as ‘Emperor Zune.’ At one point he investigated changing his legal name to ‘Microsoft Zune’ before waking up to his own unique version of coyote ugly. For Steven Smith, the Zune honeymoon is over,” iPhone Savior reports.

“I spoke to Smith by phone as he waxed on about the failings of Zune, his disappointment in the progress of the product line and his new iPod Touch. ‘The thing that pisses me off is that Microsoft is not advancing the Zune software, it’s obviously the bastard child in Microsoft’s product line,’ said Smith,” iPhone Savior reports.

“Smith gushed over the feel of his new 16GB iPod Touch which he purchased after owning an 80GB iPod Classic for less than 72 hours.’It’s super thin and does some really neat stuff like tilting to go into cover flow,’ Smith said. ‘I also like watching movies on it. I can go anywhere to get iPod accessories, that’s not the case with Zune stuff in Iowa,'” iPhone Savior reports.

[Thanks to MacDailyNews Readers too numerous to mention for the heads up.]

This fat poor bastard’s 15 seconds of fame were 15 seconds too many.

A worse iPod endorser we cannot be bothered to imagine.

  1. Having this guy become a Apple fan is not necessarily a good thing but it sure says alot about Microsoft if one of their MAJOR fans has had enough. No amount of advertising dollars is going to change that

  2. You can do a hell of a lot more with an iPod touch than that. It’s an amazing device and now with the App Store no other standalone PMP can match it. He should be blown away, especially coming from a Zune which still doesn’t even have a damn clock.

And stop breaking Iowa’s balls. After becoming the place that launched Barack Obama’s candidacy, Iowa is cool now.

  3. Hey, I know this guy wont get any sympathy from this crowd but… well, just look at the situation:

    He’s overweight.
    He’s unattractive.
    He’s none too bright.
He’s stuck with the logo of an unpopular, unsuccessful product as a permanent tattoo which will be the source of jokes for years to come.
    and… he lives in Iowa.

Any one thing could be overlooked but all of them? Pity the poor bastid.

  4. @ Angelus520

I don’t think they were directing ill feelings towards you personally or the state of Iowa, I think they were merely pointing out that this particular in-bred that obviously snacks on lead paint chips while watching Ernest Goes to Camp at the local drive in with his sister as his date….is just from Iowa. that’s all.

  5. @ R2,
“And stop breaking Iowa’s balls. After becoming the place that launched Barack Obama’s candidacy, Iowa is cool now.”

I think Clark Griswold said it best “nothing to be proud of Russ.”

With that said… I find it sad that the best we have to choose from is McCain and Obama. I am still writing in Ron Paul… can’t bring myself to vote for Mr. more taxes or Mr. more war.

    Just my 2¢…. flame on!

    The Dude abides.

  6. @artist “or Manhattan, or anywhere for that matter.”

I suspect that you might find almost as much Zune stuff in electronics shops in Redmond Washington, as you do iPod stuff. It’d be less expensive as well (as marked by the clearance signs). If you sweet talk them they might even throw in an XBox 360 HDDVD drive for free.

  7. this is getting ridiculous. MDN used to be a great place to get rumor updates and for the most part had good journalism. look at what it has become. how is a fat guy using an ipod touch news? that description probably covers about half the people writing for MDN.

  8. Very professional MDN, making fun of someone’s physical appearance.

It’d be one thing to let the readers call attention to his less-than-svelte physique, but for the site that operates under the guise of being a “news” site just seems childish and mean spirited.

I would imagine that not all MDN readers are fitness models either.

  9. @x:

Think about it. This tool got Zune tattoos, evangelized about the Zune, was invited to visit Microsoft, and on and on, Zune Zune Zune. Now, he decides it wasn’t worth it and buys an iPod. That’s a perfect story for this site, and a perfect ending to this whole ZuneGuy drama.

    Seriously… you can’t see that?

  10. “That’s a perfect story for this site, and a perfect ending to this whole ZuneGuy drama.”

And the funniest part of that ending is that he’s now a Mac Fanboy. He has become you! He has reached rock bottom and started to dig.

  11. @Irony Seems Lost:

<At risk of feeding trolls>… and further irony is lost in that YOU are the lowest form of internet life! Trolling on other fan sites making rude comments! Wow! The irony!

  12. He is a human being and don’t forget we share 99,9% genes with him. Maybe he’ll buy an iMac next, and after that he may write poetry, or his Memoirs, who knows, and be published and become a member of the jet set. Also, Orson Welles was fat.

  13. By itself, the Zune logo is not unattractive as a tattoo. Ten years from now when hardly anyone remembers what the Zune was, his tattoo will just be another design that’s not nearly as terrible as your every day common tribal tattoo that every goon seems to want permanently fixed on their skin.

He needs to lose some weight though. Gross obesity is a far bigger problem than having a (famous) dork tattoo.

  14. well, this is problem since internet is all over the place. people just don’t censor before uploading. it is disgusting to see him here. I am not discriminating anybody. but I don’t know. is it news? what an waste!

  15. @ @theDude

“If I had to vote for one, it would be McCain.”

Excellent choice. Vote for the guy who wants to raise taxes AND have a permanent presence in Iraq as a neocon launch pad for the war in Iran. Can’t imagine how great the economy will turn out then.

  16. Hey: I was 108 lbs overweight. I’ve been on a diet, losing 22 lbs already. My excuse? Over eating.

I’m sensitive to all people overweight.

HOWEVER, THIS POST IS HILARIOUS! I CAN’T STOP LAUGHING.

P.S. MDN is better journalism than the NY Times, NY Post, and the NY Daily News combined. And, I’m from the west coast!

  17. “Next time al Quaeida hits us, why don’t you invite them over to your house for dinner?”

If Barack Obama had his way over a year ago with the added brigades in Afghanistan that commanders there are now requesting, I’d have a hell of a lot less reason to worry about Al Qaeda.

They sure as hell aren’t in Iran and that’s the next stop on the Straight Talk Express.

  18. What a sad day.

No Ampar, no Zune Tang, too much thelonius mac with his twisted perspective.

Yes unfortunately Zune is dying, or maybe just sleeping (obligatory MPFC reference), Microsoft has focused their attention on Windows7 (which comes a long way after Windows98 – that’s Microsoft for ya!) and on wresting the server market from Linux. Who controls the information is king. So if Zune withers so be it, we all have to scarify for the greater good. iPods are just toys anyway.

  19. I don’t know what’s wrong with this guy. I can’t imagine the Zune honeymoon ending. Ever. Microsoft is building a platform with Zune at the center. All of Microsoft’s experience and their great innovations, security and ease of use in Windows has magically trickled down into the Zune. An already fantastic product is only getting better. Why throw all of that away for a dopey I-Pod?

Good luck squirting and listening to an FM radio on your little sissy Zune wannabe I-Pod. Dork. At least you still have that cool tattoo.

Maybe I can talk him out of it at the Iowa State Fair in a couple of weeks. The first pork chop on a stick is on me.

    Your potential. Our passion.™

  20. Personally, I think it was all a put-on, orchestrated by Apple. Remember “Ira”, the Rivercaster? Him too. Hell, it’s a great idea! Put some poor rube with a weight problem on the interwebs as a big fan of your competitor’s product, then eventually get him to switch. Genius.

  21. “If Barack Obama becomes president, Osama Bin Laden will be dead.”

If that happens he’ll die laughing at the stupidity of the American voter and prospects a weak US will give him to expand the cause of radical Islam.

  22. “it’s obviously the bastard child in Microsoft’s product line”

true, unlike….. ummm, that one product they work so hard on… you know, ummm…..

does MS have a product that take care of?

oh yes, their pile of cash.

  23. Actually, it seems that if Obama is elected, America will have a personality cult worse than kim jong il’s! Just you wait, there’ll be a Obama Hussain Temple commissioned in DC and statues of him all over the damn place.

Hell, I’ve seen his face in the papers and TV so often it’s now becoming utterly gratuitous. If he becomes President, I imagine most people will be bored to death of him and that bloody ‘saintly’ smile of his.

And why the hell is he in Germany? Do they get to vote in US elections, too? Is the US Presidency morphing into a global vote hmm?

As the article, if he likes his iPod Touch, good for him! Score for Apple! No more really needs to be said. His appearance and manner are frankly none of my business or concern.

  24. Gilles,

    “Also, Orson Welles was fat.”

Yes, and you know where that got him? Deader than a door nail.

Wikipedia says he died from a “myocardial infarction at his home in Hollywood, California.”

Wrong!!! He actually choked to death on a pork chop on a stick at the Iowa State Fair. Stupid bastard forgot to remove the stick.

    So be careful Zune Tang.

  25. @ Chrissy One

    Struck a nerve, have I?

Obama bores me to tears, but if you worship him, good for you. And for the record, I don’t rate McCain that much, either. America is screwed either way, mostly thanks to George ‘Dubya’ Bush and every big government initiative since 1932. ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”wink” style=”border:0;” />

    America deserves better.

  26. “Is the US Presidency morphing into a global vote hmm?”

If it did it would have a hell of a lot of people more capable of intelligent thought than you.

Alrighty then, that should do it. Let’s get some seriously savage political banter going here. It sure beats talking about the iPhone.

  27. “The White House on Monday predicted a record deficit of $490 billion for the 2009 budget year, a senior government official told CNN. The official pointed to a faltering economy and the bipartisan $170 billion stimulus package that passed earlier this year for the record deficit. President Bush inherited a budget surplus of $128 billion when he took office in 2001 but has since posted a budget deficit every year.”

  28. @ Sir Gill Bates

“If it did it would have a hell of a lot of people more capable of intelligent thought than you.”

You really know how to pull the ol’heartstrings, don’t you? I ought to pass that on to Hallmark!

  29. All we need now is someone to change their name to ‘Emperor Touch’ who has an Apple logo tattoo on each shoulder and ‘utility belt’ covered in iPod Touches. He’ll also wear iPod socks and one of those magneta colored sun visors, and be armed with iTunes Store vouchers, an aluminum hip flask with Apple logo, an Apple watch and so many white ear buds the wires wrap around him like a string vest.

Emperor Touch also has Karate Chop! action and an iPhone with quick dials to the iPod Division and Johnny Appleseed. Loudspeaker accessory available, presets include Apple marketing slogans and a Steve Jobs Insult Generator.

Note, batteries not included. Not for sale in Washington, Maine, Rhode Island or Jim’s ‘Extreme Electronics’ store in Miami.

  30. Bin Laden family – personal friends of mine. Any questions?

Well you don’t get to ask them.

Shut up. Go shopping or something.

Ever hear of the “Art of War”? Read it. It’s OK to stage an attack your own people if it will motivate them to war.

  31. @Craptastic,
“PAY MY TAXES” is your patriotic duty only because we have a bloated, inefficient government. Taxes are a necessity only because we MADE it so. Running up a huge deficit amongst other things.

It is way more complicated then can be explained or debated in a MDN forum…. but the people elected into office continue to abuse the people that elected them into office. Something sound wrong there? Yeah, we are all a bunch of damn masochists because this is a cycle that has not broken.

Check out Ron Paul for 10 minutes with an OPEN mind. Find out why we soooo messed up not getting this man up against Obama for the presidency. Not because he is a republican (I have previously voted democrat primarily), but because he wants to do the RIGHT thing.

Stepping off my soap box now…. peace.

    The Dude abides.

  32. @Chrissy One

‘Andy’s witty banter brought to you by a generous donation from my aunt Trudy…c1’

We ought to have a national Hallmark Slogan Day sometime, or better yet, public speakers and screens that enforce public happiness, inbetween episodes of ‘Uncle Obama Says…’ (:P). And instead of Pinkerton agents, we’ll have Hallmark agents who fine you for frowning, or NOT holding your spouse’s/girlfriend’s hand in public!

There’s a fortune to be made!

  33. @ Sir Gill Bates

What’s the number for the National Enquirer again? Oh, I see, I’ll… keep mum for a cut of the action?

    @ Chrissy One

Just doing my bit for the homeland, my good lady.

  34. @QED

Jesus loves a good curry, too. And a pina colada while he’s at it.

    @ Toasty

America’s theme tune ought to be You Could Be Mine by Guns’n’Roses at full volume. We’d deafen and numb the other world leaders into obedience!

    @ Sir Gill Bates

At least we’ll be Gods Among Men, mister Sir.

  35. Gee looks like there might be some confusion with some readers who are not part of the terrorist AENUS (Australia, England ‘N United States). Please put some perspective into this.

-He’s overweight.: Members of the AENUS alliance has some of the highest weight per capita. I am sure his friends in IOWA call him slim.

He’s unattractive: They may not be talking about skin, but what is deeper than that, cause that after all is where true beauty lies.

He’s none too bright. Well that pretty well speaks for most of the members of the AENUS alliance.

He’s stuck with the logo of an unpopular, unsuccessful product as a permanent tattoo which will be the source of jokes for years to come.: Which is not much different than having a flag shoved up so far where the sun don’t shine that you can see the stars shining from behind their eyes. (Looks eerie at dusk).

  36. “we ask is that you repent and denounce your evil ways.”

And reach for a few thousand packs of twinkies to get up to Apple Fanboy weight. And let personal hygene go. And Please Please stop thinking for yourself. Apple will now be doing that for you.

  37. Like watching a sinking ship; it’s never a pretty sight. The same with seeing a technical product (even with a competing product to the iPod) dyeing before our eyes. I’ve been excited about products just as religiously as the Zune Guy. And, that product took a nose dive too. It’s sad because I’m sure that even the Zune had it’s features and benefits that the iPod will never see since they’re no longer competing.

  38. A surreal moment?

Suppose there is this clown with land adjacent to yours. You both raise cattle. Your bozoid neighbor uses this schmantzy geometric ‘Z’ pattern as his cattle brand. ‘Um, OK. Just keep your cows out of my pasture!’

And then bozo’s cows start jumping the fence from his land onto your land in droves, eating your grass, boinking your cattle, crossbreeding, Herefords and Aberdeens living together, mass hysteria.

Is that really a good thing? What if the ‘Z’ branded cattle bring Mad Cow Disease with them? Bozo treats his cattle very poorly, so who know’s what problems they have. Sure you have more cattle now, but at what cost?

I say shoot them all in the head and sell the meat to McDonalds!
