Get ready for Newton 2.0 MacBook touch?!
So says our source — the same one who tipped us to wireless iTunes Store sales direct to iPod, iPhone a week before Apple debuted it — in staccato fashion:
Think MacBook screen, possibly a bit smaller, in glass with iPhone-like, but fuller-featured Multi-Touch. Gesture library. Full Mac OS X. This is why they bought P.A. Semi. Possibly with Immersion’s haptic tech. Slot-loading SuperDrive. Accelerometer. GPS. Pretty expensive to produce initially, but sold at “low” price that will reduce margins. Apple wants to move these babies. And move they will. This is some sick shit. App Store-compatible, able to run Mac apps, too. By October at the latest.
MacDailyNews Note: This is a rumor. We have no other information. We cannot confirm this information independently at this time, but felt it plausible enough to bring to your attention.
We are working to develop new products that contain technologies that our competition will not be able to match. I cannot discuss these new products, but we are very confident in our product pipeline. – Apple CFO Peter Oppenheimer, during Apple’s Q308 Financial Results Conference Call, July 21, 2008
And how would this be different from The Axiotron™ Modbook™ that has been available from OWC for months?
Sarasota: multitouch? thinner? smaller? more portable?
how should we know? it is a rumor…..
Yeah, the Apple tablet is a rumor but the Modbook is available now.
I have two words for this rumor:
bullshit
Why in the world would anyone want a touch screen computer? The most annoying thing in the world for me is having anything on my screen. This being a touch screen would have smudges all over it and would impede viewing anything. An actual glass screen like the iPhone would be way too heavy thwy would have to make it out of something else.
hairbo – “bullshit” is one word.
In perfect Jobs style he would’ve said “if I show you what we’re developing you’d shit in your pants”.
I know this must be true. As history has repeated shown that whenever you finally buy that fine, perfect Apple product, chances are in a better, cheaper gadget is coming out real soon. I just bought a brand new MBP. Couldn’t hold off any longer. No doubt the new design and price slash (as stock rumor projected) will be true as well.
Just have one thing to say: Bye, bye, little mouse. It was nice holding ya… sniff*
wow. this would mean that i don’t have to consider the modbook =]
I called it on my show today as well. look at the patents they have brought out over a year ago. The success of the touch, the OS is already there. Question is will TEch Crunch make there’s first and beat the market?
Mobuzz.TV
Have a look at the show to decide.
New and mysterious products? I would be happy if Apple developed resolution independence it had promised over 2 years ago,
Booooring. Just how many of these neither-here-nor-there machines do we need?
XD. You guys are such a bunch of fanboys… XD
To the people who keep asking “who’s the market for this thing?” That would be me. I would consider a modbook even at what they are charging for them if they weighed 2.5-3LBs less than they do. A tablet style thing from Apple would suit me just fine especially if I could connect the apple BT keyboard to it and stand it up at school. Then, I could finally have my super light weight Mac that is just powerful enough for taking notes, checking email/web, and maybe a bit of very light audio work. Right now, my favorite portable is the 12 inch powerbook G4 that I am typing this on. The MBA is not a good replacement for me because it takes up a much bigger footprint.

AFFFFFFFFFFF!
se achando.
lighter than the macbook pro? it’s supposed to have a glass-touchscreen… weirdo!
Microsoft already demoed a notebook with multituch screen to show an early stage of win7. It seams a big finger prints fest.
This rumor is complete nonsense. A superdrive? You’ve got to be kidding me.
The transition will be out of the classic iPod design into the iPod touch, which they will offer at lower profit margins in order to make it the standard by which other companies producing MP3 players will struggle against.
By getting the iPod Touch into more hands they will further entice iPhone developers and increase the amount of sales in the App Store. And all of those people will then be enticed to pick up iPhones in the future, which will run their Apps and play their music and videos.
Many Apple fanboys need to stop fantasizing about what they want and think about Apple’s long-term strategy to shape the marketplace in their favor.
will it blend

We need thousands for our University. And we need them NOW!
tablets = a gimmicky toy that will rarely be used
Although I was ‘Design Match’ on Fine Living and the designer was sketching ideas for a way to replicate the designer’s room in the contestants house (at 1/10th the budget, the idea behind the show). I thought in *that* sense, a tablet would be cool.
THERE IS A TROJAN HORSE HERE, AND IS AN AMAZING ONE:

So, it would be the ultimate iPhone, iPod touch and Mac development platform. Expect Apple market share to double next year!
And remember, no more than 5 to 7 inches. Even the MacBook Air is too large and heavy for us. We want the full Mac OS X on our hand and on our pocket!
Quote: “tablets = a gimmicky toy that will rarely be used”
Exactly. I don’t see it happening in 2008 and even *if* it happens, a niche market that won’t push many out of the door.
thanks
