“Although no official announcement has been made, Apple public relations confirmed to Fortune that Steve Jobs will deliver a keynote address on June 9, the first day of the 2008 World Wide Developers conference,” Philip Elmer-DeWitt blogs for Fortune.
“It is widely expected that Jobs will use that speech to unveil the next generation of iPhones, including a so-called 3G model,” Elmer-DeWitt reports.
“The drumroll has already started on Apple’s website, where users can download a Dashboard widget counting down the hours before the June 9 WWDC by the days, hours, minutes and seconds,” Elmer-DeWitt reports.

“1) Phone
2) iPod with full screen and touch screen controls
3) Internet communications device”
He was referring to the iPhone. It has all three.
I don’t see why we need to have the 3G iPhone before June 9th.
So what if there are no phones available between now and then?
Are any of you going to run out and get a Nokia or RIM or Motorola phone instead? Just cuz you GOTTA use a phone in the next 30 days?
I think it’s far better that ALL the 1.0 iPhones are drained from inventory.
I really don’t think Apple cares if there are NO iPhones for sale in the coming weeks.
Nokia might care. Motorola might care. Sony might care. I don’t think Apple would (or should) care at all, focused on the long term.
(An Apple writer).
PS – having said that, if it does announce the 3G phone, for sure I am clicking on the website ASAP to buy two of them.
Whoever wrote:
“When the iPhone was announced, Jobs first said that Apple had created 3 (three) breakthrough devices:
1) Phone
2) iPod with full screen and touch screen controls
3) Internet communications device
Well, we got the iPhone first, then the iPod Touch came out months later. Is it possible that the Internet Communications Device is an iTablet of some sorts?”
PLEASE TELL ME YOU WERE JOKING – THAT DEVICE HE WAS TALKING ABOUT IS THE iPhone!!!
“PLEASE TELL ME YOU WERE JOKING – THAT DEVICE HE WAS TALKING ABOUT IS THE iPhone!!!”
Think outside the box a little…
I know he was referring to the iPhone because it has all 3, but is it possible that the iPhone is primarily a cell phone with other functions built in? The iPod Touch is primarily an iPod with other functions built in? And the iTablet (whatever it will be called) will primarily be a breakthrough internet communications device with other functions built in?
Think about it. When I’m home i do not need my laptop nor desktop for what I do: internet, email, etc. However, the iPhone is a bit small to do major web surfing. An iTablet on the other hand would be perfect!
What do you think about that?
