Report: Apple to unveil more Australian retail stores

“Up to three more Australian based Apple stores are expected to be opened, according to reports. The company is currently preparing to open its first Australian store on George Street in Sydney, with the doors expected to open mid-year,” Scopical reports.

“It is now understood that the company is considering retail space for two additional Sydney stores, plus a retail space in Chadstone, Victoria,” Scopical reports.

“While Apple won’t confirm the official opening date for the Sydney store, it is now expected to begin further planning for the additional retailers,” Scopical reports.

“Advertising for staff positions have also been noted, including jobs for retail assistants, Apple specialists and creative staff,” Scopical reports.

  1. Bring ’em on!!!

I reckon one of the hugest (not to mention most bleedin’ obvious) reasons for Apple’s low market share in Australia is the lack of shops. You’ve gotta literally drive past about 50 PC shops to get to an Apple shop, so the uninformed masses don’t bother or even know the difference.

    Crazy!

  2. Des Gusting and cc,

it’s not much different here (I’m a Brit living in Berlin).
There’s only one Apple Store on the European continent, in Rome, and there are not a few towns where Mac heads are ‘patiently’ waiting:-

Amsterdam, Stockholm, Oslo, Copenhagen, Helsinki, Warsaw, Berlin, Hamburg, Munich, Cologne, Paris, Lyons, Marsaille, Milan, Prague, Madrid, Barcelona, Budapest etc. etc.
…. and all of those mentioned could do with two or three Apple Stores!

  3. Looking at it like that, it’s just occured to me that Australia, in proportion to its population, is not doing so badly.
It seems that English-speaking countries, particularly the U.K., get ‘special treatment’.

The population of Europe well exceeds that of the U.S. so there’s plenty of ‘room’ (not to mention money) for about another 200 Apple Stores in Europe.

Which all bodes well for the future.
( Thinks: I really do wish that I had some spare cash for some more AAPL shares.)

  4. There’s already a store in Chatswood – MacCentric – plenty busy and providing great service!

    > You’ve gotta literally drive past about 50 PC shops to get to an Apple shop

Really? I don’t notice them, unless you mean those l’il shops with names like Joy-Luck or Win-Some Electronics that sell ugly-looking boxes, drives and supplies with obscure brand names.

  5. Des,

What is Apple’s penetration in the Australian market? Apple never releases the figures for Australia. Any ideas?

However several years ago I’d go into an Apple reseller and there’d be more staff than customers. And the store at Port Macquarie didn’t have any lights on and there was this human head peering out of the gloom. Creepy stuff.

In the last few years the stores are literally hopping. You now have to queue. Also I have more and more of my students are using macs. To be fair, most still use peecees but they know Apple’s OS is light years ahead of the Microsoft.

Then of course there are the five people I’ve switched over the past couple of years. And there are a lot of OZ switchers.

Apple is Australia is a force to be reckoned with and Apple knows this because they are building the stores in the richest parts of this country. Now all we need are the sales figures!

  6. Walter, I’ve heard 17% bandied about as a figure for consumer retail market share. That wouldn’t include direct sales by Dell and, indeed, Apple.

DJs and Myer wouldn’t be building dedicated Apple stores if there wasn’t growing demand.

  7. Maccentric in Chatswood has nothing to worry about. Leaving Chatswood station you walk right past it on the very busy high street (Victoria Ave). Chatswood Chase is a fair walk beyond that again. Unless your driving most will likely stop at Maccentric first (Which has great staff by the way). Having closing access to a genius bar would be pretty neat all the same. Also any Apple store opening in Chatswood Chase is not going to be that much bigger than Maccentric anyhow. I wouldn’t be surprised if both stores do well.

  8. We have plenty of Apple stores in Melbourne.
They aren’t “Official” Apple owned and run stores, but they are dedicated Mac shops. Even one in Chaddy that is always very busy.

And FINALLY Apple is selling their Macs in more general electronic stores. I’m sure Apple is moving heaps of iMacs via JB HiFi (a very common music, movies and electronics store here). Competing head to head with Windows PCs of various brands for shelf space, and doing fine.

  9. People’s life time is very strange issue and sometimes you would do one only thing at the same time, then you have no time to work on some else action. For example, different people have to opt for ‘tween free time and creative writing essays paper creating. In this situation, we propose to look for the professional essay papers writing service to order the college essays just about this post from.
