“Global shipments of notebook PCs… are expected to reach 93 million units in 2007 before growing to 116 million units in 2008, according to the Taiwan-based Topology Research Institute (TRI) as quoted by the Chinese-language Commercial Times,” Steve Shen reports for DigiTimes.
“Acer and Apple are expected to benefit from the expanding consumer notebook segment, with both vendors to see their volume sales grow over 30% on year, and their global market share to increase by one percentage point each in 2008, TRI was quoted as saying,” Shen reports.

30% growth in laptops? In a market that’s shifting to portables? Hey, don’t go out on a limb there…
Apple’s wordwide share will increase by a point? Whoah, you’d almost think they were undergoing a resurgence or something…Who knew?
Apple’s MacBook Pro’s are excellent trendy machines.
Can run Windows, OSX, Linux etc. which is a big plus.
5.1 optical in/out standard makes a excellent machine for playing music on the go at parties.
Laptops unfortunately have come nowhere near the performance of a Tower with it’s expandability options and pure speed.
Once you’ve gotten used to web pages and apps nearly instantaneously opening on your 30″, windows and the dock jumping at your slightest touch, 3D gaming in full detail, you’ll look at your nice new MacBook Pro with distaste. Especially the huge cost and lack of expandability requiring one to replace it every few years.
The processor industry can’t get processors to go any faster without huge heat issues, therefore most laptops today say they get more performance, but are hobbled if the heat gets too high.
I’ll tell you the truth, my new MacBook Pro seems as slow as my earlier G4 laptop. I see know why Apple went into devices like the iPod Touch and the iPhone. Basically to give features of a laptop without the performance. Because as performance increases as it has too, the laptop will unfortunatly have to get bigger and clunkier again to support the cooling required and a larger battery.
The trend I see is that people will do their heavy lifting on their home/work computer instead. Sending it there via their iPhone/iPod Touch.
30% larger sails? That a pretty big jump. I didn’t even know they had them. What are they, wind powered?
