I hope this update fixes the glossy screen.
I Live in NZ, going to work for MagnumMac, closed thing to an Apple Store!
RE: Oops
I’m not sure if that was sarcasm or not…what’s bad with the glossy screen? I’m looking to get one when Leopard comes out.
With this update, my iMac’s glossy screen is not nearly as glossy! Way to go, Apple!
No such word as “preventative.”
The term is “preventive.”
My MBP is certainly much “snappier” than it was 5 minutes ago.
Lol
use your Mac’s built-in Oxford dictionary:
preventative=adj or n
“another term for preventive”
@macmineamac
I <3 the “snappier” comment. LOL!!!!
@@Randian
Sorry, old chum, but even the OED is “descriptive” now, and not “prescriptive.” Even “ain’t” is listed as another term for “isn’t” or “aren’t” today. Look up “mischievous” is some of today’s dictionaries and you’ll find “mischievious” as another spelling/pronunciation of the term. A zillion people CAN be wrong, as in almost EVERYONE today using “it’s” as the possessive form of the pronoun “its.” “Preventative” is listed ONLY because so many people today are mishearing and then mispronouncing the correct term. How many times each day do you hear someone saying “supposably”? That doesn’t make it right.
Hey Guys
my link is working Now.
Cool, I hate html and web-stuff. {Someone could make a really simple web editor for this. }
I have some other ideas; well I am here OK. So listen UP as
they are cool:
1.)We should have social Network for Macusers Only ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”smile” style=”border:0;” />
2.) We should have MM cards for sending files rather than CDs like memory stick will be heaps cooler.
3.) Google need to have a better Frontpage for Contect etc
4.)We should have Tunnels for transporting goods around a country. Like a Tunnel that runs on air so a Capsules are sucked around ( like the old Department Stores)
would help save Environment.
I have a lot of ideas but I am trying to get a patents and it is so expensive,
My MacBook’s glossy screen isn’t glossy anymore after this update, it’s just snappy.
Darn update turned my matte screen GLOSSY!!
Dam I didn’t know how ugly I am. DARN YOU STEVE!!!
…what’s bad with the glossy screen? I’m looking to get one when Leopard comes out.
Seriously? like reflections caue eyestrain, CVS and the reflections are ANNOYING AS HELL!!
I’m streching this matte MBP until Apple comes to its senses.
My unabridged dictionary published in 1966 says “also preventative”.
Yea, guess we need to post the poll results

Even my pickles are snappier. Brava!
Preventative must have been deleted in the last Newspeak edition.
My quaint old Oxford dictionary still has it though.
Preventive Or Preventative
The words are often used interchangeably to denote whatever prevents something else happening or occurring, especially when it is undesirable. However, preventative is often applied to an actual object, especially in noun form, while preventive is mostly reserved for an abstract concept, and remains an adjective: Preventive medicine regards vitamin C as an effective preventative against colds.
@Magicpony
Surely “prevention” is the noun?
From ‘Fowler’s Modern English Usage’ (1970), the authoritative guide:
prevent(at)ive. The short form is better; see LONG VARIANTS.
At Long Variants: Those who run to long words are mainly the unskilful and tasteless; they confuse pomposity with dignity, flaccidity with ease, and bulk with force… When a word for the notion wanted exists, some people (i) forget or do not know that word, and make up another from the same stem with an extra suffix or two; or (ii) are not satisfied with a mere current word, and resolve to decorate it, also with an extra suffix; or (iii) have heard a longer form that resembles it, and are not aware that this other form is appropriated to another sense. Cases of (i) and (ii) are often indistinguishable; the motive differs but the result is the same…
@MagicPony – that was well put. I think that is how I hear those words being used; thanks for codifying it.
“what’s bad with the glossy screen? I’m looking to get one when Leopard comes out.”
If you’re not sitting directly in front of it or if you’re in a bright room, you’ll see reflections in the screen. This is not a problem on the ordinary screens. I’m getting an mbp with an ordinary screen as soon as the leopard is set free.
@ MagicPedant
……..and one should never use a big word when a diminutive one will suffice ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”smile” style=”border:0;” />
