Apple hits one-month high on strong Mac, iPhone sales estimate

“Apple Inc., the maker of iPods and Macintosh computers, advanced to a one-month high on speculation sales will exceed estimates,” Lynn Thomasson reports for Bloomberg.

“Apple added $5.68, or 4.1 percent, to $144.16. Analyst Gene Munster at Piper Jaffray said Macintosh computer sales probably exceeded his 1.9 million unit estimate in the September quarter. He also said Apple may sell about 804,000 iPhones in the quarter, topping his 800,000 forecast. Munster kept his ‘outperform” rating on Apple shares,” Thomasson reports.

  1. I was at Fry yesterday, and the apple section was packed. No one really there helping customers, but they had a 20 inch iMac that was crowded for people to try. I personally witnessed 7 macbooks and macbook pro total leaving the store in the hour I was there. NOT BAD AT ALL.

  2. “Many people are offended by the new glossy screens.” Come on, seriously. Offended? Glossy screens actually offend you?

On a funny note, it’s kind of ironic in light of MDN’s take on recent events that this page is covered from head to toe with ads for NBC ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”grin” style=”border:0;” />

  3. @no matte…

have you ever owned a mac with a glossy screen?

just wondering because I happen to own a new MB and the glossy screen isn’t that big of a problem…sure there’s some glare but not any worse than matte screens, which wash out under bright light, and don’t come close to a glossy screen in terms of saturation, brightness, and overall “pop”.

I have a friend with an older powerbk with a matte screen and the whole screen turns white in bright light while mine, through the glare, is still quite readable.

MDN word: “month” as in-the month of the touch screen iPod!!!

  4. “Many people are offended by the new glossy screens.” Come on, seriously. Offended? Glossy screens actually offend you?

They hurt my eyes yes. I would have to live in a dark room in order to elliminate any reflections. I would like to have a choice of either glossy or matte for everyone to chose for themselves.

Search Google for “glossy vs matte” at Ars Tech, search MacPolls and MacSlash Polls for the same. Overwhelming amount of peeps prefer matte over glossy.

On a funny note, it’s kind of ironic in light of MDN’s take on recent events that this page is covered from head to toe with ads for NBC

NBC is going to test the idea that devices don’t mattter, they are advertising here to get Mac users to switch to their new service(s) for TV shows etc.

I was watching ABC’s free shows for awhile, then they demanded a Admin Password to install some crap on my Mac and I emailed them to go FSCK themselves.

Of course I don’t see any ads, or have annoying pop-unders or roll over ads visting MDN. Pages load lickity split too. How? I installed a hosts file in my etc/hosts which makes my computer refuse to connect to the parasites of the internet. You can too, just learn pico or vi first. Google for “hosts file” first link. File is there, paste at the bottom of etc/hosts. Can’t tell you too much, learn grasshopper.

  5. No matte….is actually another one of Zune Tang’s identities here. Man, he/she sure does have a lot of time his/her hands to goad the unsuspecting Mac aficionados. Kinda funny to see ppl take the bait.

I’m not Zune Tang or trying to be a troll.

Just a bit annoyed I can’t buy/use the new glossy iMac screens, present iMac is getting slow and I was hoping to upgrade.

I just want Apple to listen to the overwhelming amount of people who need matte screens. It’s not just Apple, it’s the entire computer industry. But I dont’ use Windows, let them bastards suffer with glossy eyestrain.

  6. @No matte,
Why don’t you just get a mini and a separate Apple LCD screen? What can you do on the iMac that you can’t do on the high end mini? The only significant difference IMHO is the graphics card, but unless you’re a gamer that shouldn’t make a big difference.

  7. have you ever owned a mac with a glossy screen?

Yes, many of them. They were all CRT’s you know, before LCD’s came out. The green screen CRTS were the worse. LCD’s were a soothing relief to many people I know.

just wondering because I happen to own a new MB and the glossy screen isn’t that big of a problem…

Well perhaps it looks “cool” but glossy screens will cause problems over time, especially with a lot of daily use.

It’s the refelctions and your eyes constantly focusing between the two images, causing eyestrain and headaches. It affects one more when they get older. Computer Vision Syndrome.

I gave a friends glossy iMac a try for a week, so I really gave it a good shot.

I’ve been substancially reducing my content in iPhoto, iTunes and others, running one app at a time (so unproductive), upped the RAM, Onyx, Disk Warrior and everything to get every bit of performance. But I need a new mid-range machine that I can use without headaches.

    I’m hoping Apple will come out with matte options tommorrow. ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”smile” style=”border:0;” />

  8. Man, you need serious help, for your entire vision of the universe is STATIC! Do you know what that means in your philosophy, Polonius?

As the iPhone IS, it will always BE. No change is possible. Upgrades are ephemeral and impossible. Things only fall apart; the center cannot hold.

Thank Gawd YOU are not in charge of product development at Apple!

  9. @originalrecipes

If you truly believe that the iPhone is about to fail big time, put your money where your fat mouth is and SHORT AAPL right now! Don’t wait another minute longer, oh wise one. Put your cojones on the table and show us one and all what you’re made of!

  10. Hey Matte,

I don’t think it’s necessary to discuss your screen preference in every thread. This is a news site, glossy iMacs = old news.

Apple’s stock prices reflect a successful product line.

Don’t bother posting links to polls etc. I can go back find them them in every other thread. I’m also capable of using a search engine.

  11. You know, with all the rumors about the new Pods etc., I thought that 10.4.11 may have snuck out today. I know .11 is fixing other bugs, but I figured there may be some underlying things in. .11 for the new line of Pods.

    Anyway…It should be coming soon

  12. I hated glossy screens enough that, when the new iMacs came out, I quickly sold my iMac, and got the best run-out matte iMac I could find. I intend to use this matte iMac as long as it lives, then switch to Mac Mini’s where I can select my own matte screen. See what I have to go through because of Apple’s arrogance.
