Digital Trends reviews Apple iPhone: ‘One of the most groundbreaking, fun to use gadgets in history’

“Nearly a million iPhone owners… already own one of the most groundbreaking, fun to use (and practically psychic) gadgets in the history of technology. Does this first generation iPhone ($499 USD for the 4GB version, $599 USD for the far more popular 8GB model), available exclusively from AT&T, have flaws? Absolutely: Otherwise, there’d be no reason for a next-generation model or for the periodic software and firmware upgrades that are sure to come. But really – who gives a flying flop? These flaws are smothered by a dual onslaught of clever innovation in terms of the device’s snazzy user interface and brilliantly-realized integration of physical design, OS and software – both behind and in front of its gleaming glass surface,” Stewart Wolpin reports for Digital Trends.

“iPhone’s innovations with the touchscreen and OS are more than the sum of its parts. Unlike any other mobile device, iPhone is flat out fun to use, regardless of how mundane the function,” Wolpin reports.

  1. Yes! You are so right phatman…

You can leave your phone at home so you can carry your Mp3 player… Nice.

Oh, and if you feel like getting on the internet, you can go back home…

Ahh freedom! Isn’t a Windows life wonderful?

I bet when they invented the computer you demanded that it was useless next to your abacus…

  2. PhatMan:
o please i can get a real camera AND a mp3 player AND a phone for less than 499 and guess what? then i dont have to carry all 3 with me every single place. its called choice. but only microsoft gives you freedom.

who cares about the internet part, they make a little thing called computers for that. look them up, the sweet ones run a little thing called windows.

You’re joking, right? By the way, Macs run Windows now too, if you’re into that kind of thing.

  3. OK, I ordered my 8GB iPhone last Saturday and it arrived this afternoon. It was activated and ready to sync in just a few minutes (was/am a current ATT wireless customer). This thing is great and I am already finding many ways that this is going to help me get things done and stay organized. ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”tongue wink” style=”border:0;” />

  4. I got my iPhone yesterday. Wow. It works amazingly. iCal works. Syncs correctly, and I can add events and they get synced. Phone app is amazing. Internet is…..wow. If Apple comes out with a touch tablet or something, I’d get one. The internet via touch is simply way cooler and easier to use than with a mouse.

Camera is lame. Notes is lame. Youtube is good, except they need to get more content and maybe allow you to log into your own youtube account.

Text Msging. Very cool. Email works. I can log into my FreeBSD IMAP server. It works fine.

iPod stuff. Works fine. Videos look better than on my iPod with video (1 1/2 yrs old).

This thing does all the things I want it to do. Way better than my Treo which never synced to my Mac correctly…

  5. We don’t care if you have negative things to say about Jobs/iPhone and their strategy/price/target audience. I have an iPhone and it’s astonishingly natural to use.

    The iPhone is revolutionary.

The iPhone is…. like an Aston Martin–it’s a well thought out, quality product that has an elusive mystique with a select fan base. It’s loved by those who own it, and envied by those who cannot afford it. It’s targeted to a specific enthusiast who is immediately inducted as member of a larger community of interest and will proudly share their experiences with others who own the product.

This is where we share our thoughts.

I do not care if you feel it is too expensive–fine, I do not and you don’t have to purchase one.

I don’t care if it’s complicated for the “business user”–I’m not a “business user” and happen to be one for which this product was created. If you’re not, don’t get one.

I don’t care if the iPhone only garners 1/2% of the cell phone market because I don’t care if the public at large “gets” Apple’s ease of use and product superiority.

I don’t care what the media says about the iPhone–I enjoy using mine, and that’s good enough for me.
