“Back in January, I raked Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer over the coals for announcing in a TV interview that the iPhone was “the most expensive phone in the world.” His own HTC Windows Mobile phones are $900,” Daniel Eran writes for RoughlyDrafted.
Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer laughs at Apple iPhone back in January on CNBC:
“Of course, he compared the $500 iPhone to the simple Motorola Q, which was on sale for $99. What he didn’t say was that the Q was only offered at that price when users signed up for an $80/month contract over two years, a $1920 commitment,” Eran writes.
“With the new plans announced by Apple and AT&T, that has changed. The minimum plan with unlimited data is $59, or $1416 over two years. That makes the iPhone over a hundred dollars less than Verizon’s limp Motorola Q,” Eran writes.

Ballmer will remain the Chair-thrower in Chief at Microsoft until the company’s top shareholder decides that the job of running the empire is too much for his only friend in the world. Until then, the brain drain will proceed, and the chances of anyone being able to return MS to competence will diminish.
Dr. Lawrence Peter should dedicate all future editions of The Peter Principle to Ballmer.

Another pricing comparison performed tonight:
Apple iPhone vs. BlackBerry Pearl Red (Both from AT&T)
After 24 months, the iPhone is $100 cheaper.
Here is the math-
iPhone $499 + 24 * (39.99 + 20) = 1939
Pearl $0 + 24 * (39.99 + 44.99) = 2039
The Pearl is on a special:
Price $399.99
2-yr Contract Price $249.99
Online Discount – $149.99
Mail-in Rebate Card – $100.00
*Online Price $0.00
Thank you Apple for changing the game. First by pricing the data so affordably, it’s clear than everyone with have data on their phones within 3-5 year, because of this. Next, thanks for getting us away from all this pricing nonsense. In the example above, I’m buying a brand new BlackBerry for 0 after rebate, discount, contract price. It’s stupid. I like the idea of paying a reasonable price for a reasonable phone (iPhone) and $20 for data. In the third year, the savings really starts to add up. Then there is a $400 difference in total ownership cost between the two; iPhone winning, of course. THANKS APPLE!!!
No taste, no originality, no integrity.
It tells you an awful lot about Europeans when they don’t even understand what a cowboy is. *shaking head* I hope you find your “intelligence” somewhere, Europanzies, before the Muslims take over your countries.
You’re EXACTLY right on point!
Add to that a substantial dose of “appeasement” by the Europeons as a way of not historically dealing with issues, and your point is complete!
@BustingTheSkullsOfIdiots and @ for BustingTheSkullsOfIdiots;
Yeah, back in the day, many European countries and media called Reagan a cowboy – that ‘cowboy’ presided over the fall of the Soviet Union! They were so afraid of him they SPENT themselves out of business!
Fascinating site and well worth the visit. I will be backf
