Apple Retail Store coming to Lehigh Valley Mall (Pennsylvania)

Apple Store“Time was when the words ‘apple store’ made most people in the Lehigh Valley think of a farm stand,” Kurt Blumenau reports for The Morning Call.

“That’s about to change. Apple Inc., which created the Macintosh computer and iPod personal music player, plans to open one of its retail Apple Stores at the Lehigh Valley Mall,” Blumenau reports.

“The Cupertino, Calif., tech company recently began posting help-wanted ads on its Web site for a new store at the Whitehall Township mall. The Valley’s largest shopping center is building a 110,000-square-foot upscale addition, which is slated to open in August,” Blumenau reports.

“The Whitehall store would be Apple’s fifth in Pennsylvania, and first outside the Philadelphia and Pittsburgh areas. The company has 181 stores around the world,” Blumenau reports.

“An Apple Store spokeswoman said Tuesday the company has made no announcement about a Lehigh Valley store. In the past, the company has said it does not talk about stores until a week or two before they open,” Blumenau reports. “Hershey said an Apple representative would not tell her when the local store might open.”

  1. Winston,
I have heard one is coming to Center City. I think there is a website out there that lists possible/planned Apple Stores and I think back in the fall it listed a place on Market St.

P.S. I live up on Fairmount Ave.

  2. Cubert: small world! I live in Fairmount, behind ESP.

The mythical center city Apple store is on par with Bigfoot and the Loch Ness monster. I’ll believe it when I see it. Hope you’re right, though.

  3. I live like 15 minutes away from this mall and while it is cool to get a really local Apple Store, this mall is like the dirt mall from Mallrats. Most of the people there are ghetto trash from Allentown. So not cool.

  4. Live in South Philly, work in Center City. The mythical Center City store was rumoured to be on Walnut between 17th and 18th. It was a small place considering some of the other Apple stores and it became a women’s clothing store. The one that did open at Suburban Square in Ardmore took over that rumour.

Walnut Street west of Broad would be the obvious location for an Apple Store. Right now however there really is no good space opportunities. We can still keep our fingers crossed!

  5. To : So not cool & No Squirt For You
I think you have a BIG surprise coming. Apparently you two underestimate MAC users.
I’ll be happy to prove it to you.
    SEE YOU OPENING DAY !!!

  6. I’ve lived in Bethlehem, PA for the past 12 years and love it here. The Lehigh Valley has changed much since the Mack Truck / Bethlehem Steel dominated days. The valley has grown and companies like Olympus USA now make their corporate homes here and the Bethlehem Steel property hasn’t even been completely redeveloped yet. (Casino coming soon).

Personally, I can’t wait for the Apple Store. No more driving down to King of Prussia Mall to play with the Macs. We owned an older iBook awhile back (clamshell design) and liked it well enough – but buying separate applications drove my wife back to wanting a Windows laptop. However, I’m seriously considering switching over to OSX for photo editing purposes and dual booting a Mac Pro.

Oh, and as far as the Lehigh Valley Mall – Yes, it has gone down hill in the face of competition from new “Lifestyle” centers like the Promenade in Saucon Valley and strips on the Route 33 corridor. But it looks like they are investing alot of capital into upgrading the mall (new “lifestyle” addition, etc). But you are right, it’s much like downtown Allentown. If you don’t get the ‘riff raff’ out of there, you aren’t going to get the upscale shoppers with the disposable income to come and spend – particularly after dark.
