“The latest release of iTunes, numbered 7.1, brings clear evidence that the Apple TV will be able to play games as users on the Internet noticed that it makes reference in its resource files to an Apple TV Games syncing feature,” Alexandros Roussos reports for MacScoop.
Roussos reports, “A search for ‘Apple TV’ in the program’s localization strings, which can be accessed from the compiled version of the program, brings us the following result, among many others: ‘Are you sure you want to sync games? All existing games on the Apple TV “^1” will be removed‘ where ‘^1’ is a variable which is replaced by the name given to the Apple TV device.”

nittany4: isn’t there a mystery USB port on the apple tv?
perhaps for a joystick?
shame there’s only one though
Unless someone comes out with a USB “hub” type device. What’s so mysterious about it? It’s a great way to expand on the drive space of the internal (apple)TV hard drive. Maybe hook up a hub and put a wireless controller on it too…

They are meant for art and work!
so please do me a fawor Apple and let windows handle the gaming…
Hey, here’s one to left field…
What if gaming is part of the AppleTV platform in PARTNERSHIP with Sony? Remember, Jobs saying they were going to be working on things together. If Sony were to allow AppleTV to play some PS2 games via iTunes download, it would not be stealing revenue from Sony, it would add to it. The processing power of a PS2 could be contained within a AppleTV. Wireless controllers are possible, aren’t they, so if a USB controller hub is plugged into the AppleTV, the controllers could be used.
Yeah, I know, fly ball, I’m out.
