360 and PS 3 are high def. PS3 is bluray.
No, it’s the PS3 that does Blu-ray and the Wii can’t do HD. That’s not to say that the games don’t look nice.
I hope we’ll see a MDN spin-off soon: WiiDailyNews.
Aaron: No, it’s the PS3 that’ll play Blu-Ray discs. Supposedly both the PS3 and the Xbox 360 are hi-def, but the Wii (god I hate that name… I wish they’d stuck with Revolution) does not. But that’s not exactly what they’re trying to do with the Wii. Introducing different/innovative gameplay is Nintendo’s goal. Sony and MS just want to try to replace PCs with high end game consoles.

I’ve pre-ordered a Nintento Wii.
Playstation: too Sony, boring games that are the same from PS1 to PS2 to PS3. Yawn. PS3’s sole purpose seems to be to establish the BluRay format for movies.
Xbox: it’s from Microsoft, games are same as ones on my PC / Bootcamp partition. 360’s sole purpose seems to be lock gamers into M$ systems by expanding Windows across non-PC platformans: streaming media from PC, tokens (M$ Money) for Market Place downloads and Zune credits, integration of PC and Xbox gaming with XNA, integration with Microsoft Mobile, etc.
Wii’s sole purpose is fun games. Yes: F. U. N.
I am interested in playing HD movies with whatever game console I choose. However I hear that the players don’t have high quality output like HDMI. Is this so?

PS3 has a HDMI hookup….at least the $600 version does….can’t remember if they’ve added it to the $500 version
Hopefully games consoles will be better at playing HD movies than PS2 was at playing DVDs.
PS3: BluRay movies, HDMI connector.
Xbox 360: $180 add-on to play HD DVD movies, component connector.
Wii: plays games.
One thing to consider …
HD DVD movies getting excellent reviews for picture and audio quality due to use of next-gen codecs on 30GB discs, BluRay movies getting terrible reviews (‘The Fifth Element’ is barely as good as DVD version) because of use of old inefficient codecs on 25GB discs.
BluRay is getting better, and reviewers / early adopters are saying some discs are now just as good as HD DVD ones (the ones from Paramount that use the same codec on both) and there have been half a dozen titles announced on the 50GB size so use of old codec doesn’t ruin the picture quality so much. But neither of these is the case with all BluRay movies, it’s buyer beware and check reviews because some look terrible.
What are the “obvious reasons” for following the Wii? No need to flame, I just don’t quite understand. Thanks.

This above link is an excellent article about the major blunders of the PS3, that could eventually bankrupt Sony.
Aaron, then you want the PS3. Both models of the PS3 will have Blue-ray and an HDMI port. Both will do HD movies. Blue-ray has much more content available for it so it makes it the more logical choice for those that love movies.
Another alternative until HD players come down in price and movies are available on both formats is the Oppo 971H up-converting DVD player. It is the top rated DVD player even beating out ones the most expensive players and it only costs $200. I have one and on my HDTV movies look fantastic. Then you don’t have to worry about the movie that you want coming out on the format that you chose.

Also that article looks at everything from a negative view. It also makes some assumptions that are probably not based in reality.
It also says things like it will cost you $99 – $129 for an HDMI cable. Maybe if you want one that says Sony on it but high quality HDMI cables can be had for less than $20.
If you want to use this primarily as a Blu-ray player…think twice. If you take a look at Playstation 3’s website you’ll find a bit of scary news.
Look at the “about” section, then question 10 “Can I still play my PS2 games, etc… on PS3?” In the fine print you will read “Blu-ray discs and other media may not operate properly on the PS3 system. This is primarily due to variations in the manufacturing process or encoding of the software”
So you’re “cheap” answer to a Blu-ray player now might not even play your blu-ray movies.
ALL YOU PS3 FANBOYZ BETTER BUY A WARRANTY WITH BESTBUY OR GAMESTOP WITH YOUR PS3. BECAUSE THE PS2 FIRST RUN PRODUCTION UNITS COULD NOT PLAY DVDS WELL AND HAD MULTIPLE DVD READER FAILURES.
AND THE PS3 WILL BE IN THE SAME BOAT. ESPECIALLY CONSIDERING ITS A FIRST RUN BLU RAY DRIVE.

I can’t believe he left the new Mario game off the list. That’s definitely the #1 must have for the Wii, as has been the case with every Nintendo console launch.
What I don’t like about WarioWare is that the mini games are only three seconds long. That’s not long enough to really enjoy the fun of them. Personally I can’t wait for the Wii version of Mario Party. Those mini games are just right.
Nintento Wii is available for pre-order in much of Europe, don’t know why US retailers aren’t offering the same.
Nintendo and Apple have much in common, strive for QUALITY being one point I like a lot.
