• Spotlight 2.0
• Dashboard 2.0
• Safari 3.0
• iChat 4.0
• Automator 2.0
• QuickTime 7.2
• Mail 3.0
• iCal 3.0
• Address Book 5.0

[Thanks to MacDailyNews Reader “Leveldown” for the heads up.]
Who leaked these to O’Grady, the Sandwich Man at the Wawa? Now if we can just get Leopard to work on those 50-inch plasma iMacs, we’ll be all set.

  1. I heard that Leopard cures baldness, erectile dysfuntion, warts, scabies, head lice, brake malfunctions, natural gas leaks, bad hip-hop, toe fungus, paper cuts, anal leakage, slow express lanes, religious intolerance, low white blood cell counts, and misguided transgender decisions. I saw it on the internet so it must be true.

  2. Looks about as fake as they come.

He says that the spotlight logo is different to match the new apple menu logo.. Looks like Tiger to me.

The highlighting in iTunes is definitely Photoshopped.

    Hype, hype, hype.

  3. Isolation box. When this is activated, Safari grows a little black shield around it and everything to do with Safari takes place instead in an encrypted disk image of a special filesystem that nulls unix permissions, anything that is written goes there and can’t execute out of the image. The image is deleted after the session.

Oh good, it’s about time Apple start learning about comparmentalized security.

Does one actually think one password and id card is going to get them access to the enitre Pentagon?

  4. “The letter F”, that’s good but needs a tweak:

    Mac OS X Leopard.

Tight and secure like a steel trap.

Smooth and silky like a fine woman.

Clean and easy like a thousand-dollar call girl.

    The best of all worlds.®

[And oh yaah, Vista’s a $5 crack whore!]

  5. From TFA: <i> QuickTime 7.2: Full screen and audio recording available in non-Pro version<>/i>

if true, it is about fscking time. The pro version of Quicktime and the price of .Mac are two things which really make Apple look like a greedy company.

  6. “Isolation box. An excellent idea. I hope this rumor is true!

  7. Ampar-eating TROLL: When I say eat me, it’s not meant to be taken literally.

Back on topic: I’m happy with Tiger. It made up for many things lacking in previous OS X iterations. I just hope that Leopard is a significant step forward like Tiger.

Now THAT is innovation. Makes Safari even more secure than it was before.
If true, Apple has just nullified every single past, present and future possible web-based security exploit.

Does Windows have this? Thought not.

Powerpage’s site is S-L-O-W at the moment. This ain’t due to Mac users scrambling for WWDC tidbits, it’s Redmond frantically copying the website as quickly as possible, to see if they can cram any of this into Vista.

By next week, expect a ‘Vista delayed’ headline.

  9. I’m glad Jason O’Grady is bitch slapping Apple back for sueing him and the PowerPage site.

Looks like Apple still has their mole or two, or three.

I’m not totally impressed with the 10.5 update, it’s really just a update. Apple could have done more.

M$ now has their completed Vista roadmap.

  10. And another thing, if this is true, it demonstrates the gulf that separates the development of Microsoft & Apple.

Microsoft have gone out of their way to integrate the OS with the browser, giving scant regard to security in the process (‘cos they value locking you in to THEIR web, rather than protecting you from hackers), whilst Apple have never even hinted at integrating their browser with their OS, and now, are going out of their way to ISOLATE it from the web, knowing that internet access is a hornet’s nest of potential threats.

Maybe Apple, mindful of the explosion in market share that is about to happen and the increased awareness of the Mac as a target, is creating an innovative way to isolate the browsing experience, thus protecting all mac users.

I hope they can copyright this process, (not that Microsoft would have a hope in copying it successfully).

  11. If you read the article, the list of improvements reads much more like a list of someone’s fantasy wish list rather than an Apple feature list. There are far too many lame GUI ideas rather than real substantive improvements. Even if true, these fantasy GUI changes would not justify the sophomoric gratuitous incrementing of the version numbers suggested by the author.

  12. I call fake simply because it feels like an update. There was no mention of iLife updates or new apps, something that every OS X update has had, afaik. And a new Apple menu logo? yah right. And why did he have that annoying bubbly background when demoing the spotlights? Too much conflict, imo. A lot of “redesigned interfaces” were mentioned, but none were shown.

  13. “Instead of words down the side i.e. applications, system preferences… there are icons of each at a user defined size (80 x 80 default). So for applications there is the global application icon, and next to the hits and so on.”

but that’s not what his screen shot shows…

  14. “I’m not totally impressed with the 10.5 update, it’s really just a update. Apple could have done more.”

    Cigarette Soda,

maybe you should wait for the upgrade to come out with the official announcents of all its features before you slam it.

This is but one, limited, unconfirmed, unofficial rumor.

  15. I like Ampar. He needs a good sh!t-kickin’ now and then, jus’ like any good ol’ boy.

But he’s always good fer a laugh. Yessir.

Jus’ like my sister-now-wife always says, “If you can’t beat ’em off, lick ’em.”

  16. Ampar is one of the funniest people on the planet. And it would appear that it’s his turn to get hounded by our resident, “hide behinde my handle change” pu$$y, who thinks he’s cool and tries to bitch slap people around by using their name in an attempt to be funny.

Rock on Ampar…. ignore the troll.

  17. Ampar said:

“I heard that Leopard cures baldness, erectile dysfuntion, warts, scabies, head lice, brake malfunctions, natural gas leaks, bad hip-hop, toe fungus, paper cuts, anal leakage, slow express lanes, religious intolerance, low white blood cell counts, and misguided transgender decisions. I saw it on the internet so it must be true.”

The only thing it does not seem to cure is Windows Viruses (what a pitty, now that we have bootcamp et al), rootkits from Sony, controversies over stock options at certain companies. All in all seems to be a “miracle product”, hope the authorities allow its commercialization

  18. Great! Wth Safari 3.0 I will be able to Expose the Isolation box with a Phishing filter on the Tighter RSS and Integrate my Mail plugin as she watches my Disk image and I squeeze her Widgets. Time to smoke.

    Oh, and rock on Ampar.

  19. Better late than never….. (maybe not?)

    <u>Some small wishes:</u>

    – QuickTime 7.2: You can already get full screen playback NOW in the regular version of QT using a simple AppleScript. Drop the whole QT Pro thing and just make Pro the standard version for [your choice of diety here]’s sake!

    – Mail 3.0: Vertical preview pane *please*, SECURE message delete *please*, and a way to view the message as raw source without having to export it.

    – Fix the finder! and multi-thread it.

    – Virtual desktops (hoping, but not counting on it)

    – Dashboard 2.0: Hopefully the rumor of a preference pane will be true. I’d like a preference to turn it off completely without having to use little third party haxies. Do not integrate it into the OS for cryin’ out loud!

    – When installing an app, the OS should record all changes made during the installation and save them in some sort of script file back into the application bundle. When you drag it to the trash and empty it, it executes the script and gets rid of ALL file remnants (cleaner uninstalls). Again, hoping but not counting on this one – would be sweet though.

    – Safari 3.0: I like the rumor about the secure memory/compartmentalization. THAT would be nice

Others, but no one is going to get back to this thread anyway so I’ll quit now.

  20. Actually, this could be a real leak. Apple is known for their “stovepipe” organization. It makes sense that someone working on the update side wouldn’t know about the newer features. Such an organizational structure has several advantages. It lowers the numbers of people “in the know” for each specific secret, and due, to the lower numbers, makes it easier to find the leaker by what got leaked.

A lot of what’s here makes sense, other stuff is kinda “where’d that come from?”, which is what I’ve come to expect to come from Apple. Like the isolated Safari feature – it’s the kind of ‘slap your forehead’ why didn’t I think of that feature that Apple is famous for.

Other eye candy type stuff you wonder why’d Apple waste their time on that?

Makes it feel more authentic – but we’ll know better in about four hours or so…
