IDC 2005 top 10 global notebook computer vendors; Apple #9 with 2.171 million units shipped

“The global notebook market totaled 65.3 million units in 2005, up 33.5% from the 48.9 million units shipped in 2004, according to data compiled by IDC. The notebook segment accounted for about 31% of the 207 million PCs shipped worldwide last year, up four-percentage points on year, IDC found,” David Tzeng and Jessie Shen report for DigiTimes. “Although Dell, Hewlett Packard (HP) and Toshiba held the top three spots, respectively, for the year, Taiwan-based Acer bumped Toshiba from the third position in the fourth quarter. Lower down the Top 10 list, Asustek Computer overtook Apple Computer for the ninth position in the fourth quarter, although Apple was able to come out ahead for the year.”
