Mac OS X Dashboard Widget development tool ‘Dashcode’ coming soon?

“An Apple developer recently put together a 13 minute video demonstrating the capabilities of a yet unreleased development tool dubbed Dashcode. Designed to make developing Widgets as easy as possible, Dashcode sports an efficient and polished interface that can accommodate novice and expert JavaScript/Widget developers alike,” Ryan Katz reports for Think Secret. “The demo video showed four templates that made creating templates a very fast and drag-and-drop affair: QuickTime, Web search, Webcam, and RSS.”

“Dashcode handles all aspects of Widget management, from the front and back of a widget to its default image, Widget icon, and other attributes. From the Inspector developers can specify button shapes, sizes, and styles, backgrounds, colors, and more. A powerful debugging tool and robust Spotlight-like search functionality is also part of the package,” Katz reports. “A release date is unknown at this point, as well as whether Dashcode will be released through Apple or be made available as a third-party application.”
