Microsoft’s Bill Gates: ‘We’ve been f—-ed by China’

“Former Microsoft executive Kai-Fu Lee has accused the software giant of incompetence in its plans to gain a business footing in China, and testified that an expletive-filled tirade from chairman Bill Gates was a low point before he defected to rival Google,” The Associated Press reports.

“In testimony during a hearing on Microsoft’s lawsuit against Lee and Google, Lee said on Tuesday he wrote a memo to another Microsoft executive saying he was ‘deeply disappointed at our incompetence in China – that we have wasted so many years in China with little to show for it.’ Lee went on to say in the email that he was embarrassed by Microsoft’s business practices and that people in the government joked about Microsoft’s internal politics,” The Associated Press reports. “He testified that one of the lowest moments of his career with Microsoft was a conversation in which Gates yelled at him and said the company had been ‘f—–‘ by the Chinese people and its government. Lee did not clarify the context of Gates’ comments.”

The Associated Press reports, “Redmond-based Microsoft has sued Google and Lee, who is known for his work on computer recognition of language, a key problem in search technology. Microsoft contends that Lee’s duties would violate the terms of an agreement he signed as part of his Microsoft employment contract. Microsoft also accused Lee of using insider information to get his job at Google… Attorneys for Google said in court on Tuesday that much of what Lee knew about the Chinese market came from his previous work experience at Apple Computer and other companies, and that Microsoft was exaggerating the extent of his work for Microsoft on China.”

  1. We are all being f**ked by the Chinese, or rather by our governments desire to have China as a ‘trading partner’ at all costs, when the country has all sorts of restrictions

yeah right.. the US is stubborn as hell, demanding the Chinese revalue their currency.. if you’re worried that the US is being pushed around by the Chinese.. I assure you, they are not.

And besides.. who says the US is full of commodity/production line jobs.. ?

the US is a first world country, with a public education system that ensures people can participate in the service sector, meaning.. service sector employees are NOT worried about job security to the chinese..

if you work in a US ‘sweatshop’.. you might wanna crack open a book..

  2. Microsoft may fall but ALL of you should kiss Bill’s ass for what Microsoft has done for the industry. Their hunger to be on top created competition and made products better. Don’t you guys remember Lotus 123 and Word Perfect?

It won’t be long before you guys will be bitchin about Google. Just curious…are all of you just a bunch of whinny Democrats?

  3. Yes microsoft has done some good in the 80’s stabilizing the computer busness. But now there being just bitch.
It warms the cockles of my heart when I hear bill.
smack his head againsted the wall.

Not like he has to really worry about anything. He’s worth billions.

  4. My counterargument to the above:

Look how many other US companies were damaged or destroyed by MS unethical and sometimes illegal business practices. It could be (and has been) argued that MS has stifled innovation and setback software evolution by using unethical business practices to crush competition.

Just my opinion, but I’m not the only one who sees it that way.

  5. Well, here’s something to make you all smile…I bought my first Apple product three days ago; a 20″ iMac, and all I can say is “why the hell did I wait this long?” There is such an astonishing difference in performance between this and even the “high performance” PC with Vista et al that I use at work, that it baffles me why Apple doesn’t have even more market share. From the sounds of frustration coming from Bill “F” Gates, maybe things are turning.
