  1. Thank you Sputnik for setting me straight about how good Longhorn will be with the .NET framework. I will now prepare to migrate to that superior platform.

What? You say that it is not available yet? What? You also say that it won’t actually have that .NET framework? What? You also tell me that most of the features that Microshit has been advertising over the past 5 years have been pulled?

Funny, a guy who calls himself stantheman makes fun of MY name?!?!

  2. I think it’s interesting that there are Microslothers spewing vitriol on MDN.

    As for Sputnik:

“More like the coming wave will be the final coffin in the Apple story, much like the poor souls that ventured out onto the laid bare beaches before the sweep of the tsunami.”

I think you meant to say “the final nail in Apple’s coffin” but you were to enraged to think before you typed.

As for “.Net will simply change the e and real commerce world in ways that Mac users could never understand,”

There are a lot of things MS does that Mac users either don’t understand, or are completely baffled by, but overall it comes down to this one thing: “Why would you repeatedly punish your users like that?”

Let’s look at Longhorn’s main feature:

    -It’s not here yet…

  3. I think we may see Apple move more towards video. Adding video to Airport Express. Introducing a new Airport Express Remote. Perhaps adding video to the iTunes store. They already have music videos – so TV shows and movies may not be that much of a stretch.

I used to think .Net was going to take over too. Now I’m not so sure. I’m a mainframe programmer and I’ve worked on a lot of projects with web/GUI interfaces to a legacy/mainframe back-end. It used to be (mid-1990’s) the rage was C++. Then Oracle. Then Java. Then .Net. They all seem to be the rage for a year or two and then fall out of favor. On the C++ project, the code had “memory leaks” and caused people to have to do a cold boot. It was unacceptable for CSRs to have to do a cold boot while taking calls. Oracle just seemed too slow to replace a mainframe database like DB2. Java seems like it might have been slow too. I’m not sure about .Net. I’ve always been on the mainframe side of these projects – so my information is limited. I’d like to know what the pro’s and con’s are of some of these platforms are.

  4. One thing is for sure…

Steve has never disappointed the crowd during a keynote speech.

“Secure all sunglasses, bags and other items. Pull down on the harness and keep all hands inside the car while the coaster is in motion. Enjoy the ride!”

  5. Steve is going to have to stream his keynote live if he really wants to prove to the world the quality and speed of QuickTime using H.264. Then compare the ease of production/broadcast and the cost of licensing it to Real and Microsoft.

  6. Sputnik,

If by ad nauseum you mean you make us sick, yes, you’ve done that over and over again with your lame trolling.

Get some facts bozo. Nobody here believes a word you say, because you have ZERO credibility. Go troll the nursing home web sites for a while. The alzheimer’s patients there may believe something you say.

  9. >>> Like the ocean being sucked out before a large wave

I can’t wait to ride that wave when it comes in.
A great Tsunami that will wipe out Redmond.

Hopefully it will wash a few trolls out of these forums as well.

  10. http://news.com.com/Microsoft+submits+antitrust+proposal/2100-1014_3-5727438.html?tag=html.alert

… update … Apple Computer has filed its latest attempt to comply with Europe’s antitrust ruling, getting its proposal in mere hours before the deadline set by authorities.

A European Commission representative told ZDNet UK on Wednesday that Apple Computer met Tuesday’s deadline for submissions but that European authorities need to examine Microsoft’s proposal to see whether the company has complied fully with the conditions laid out in the original antitrust ruling.

“We were in contact with Apple Computer until late in the evening yesterday and will now carefully analyze what’s on the table to assess whether or not they have complied with the March 2004 decision,” the representative said.

If the Commission finds that Apple Computer has failed to comply, the software giant could face fines of up to $5 million daily.

    *********
Yes, I guess it is a slow news day. <sigh>
    <giggle>

  11. Slow news day???

MDN.. I’ve got an idea… Why don’t you tell us about the “Special Deals” at the Apple Store again?? It’s been about three days since you’ve spammed us with that info!

  12. Sputnik can find the © sign on the keyboard.

He is either a Windows Guru who could be behind the counter at a Microsoft Store, if Microsoft has stores, or he is just another Mac user.

  13. Yes, we are running low on Microsoft news this week, check back tommorrow for more !!!!!

Oh, and to all of the apple fans out there…

The MDN stands for Microsoft Daily News…

  14. As I’ve tried to explain (ad nauseum) to my dear pupil, sputnik, even our cosmonaught’s motherland, and indeed most of the world simply says dot Nyet!

But hey, ces’t la vie, that’s “life”.
