Apple releases Keynote 2.0.2, Pages 1.0.2 Updates

Apple today released Keynote 2.0.2 Update which can be downloaded and installed using Software Update (available) or from Apple Downloads (not currently posted). Apple also released Pages 1.0.2 Update via Software Update which tells us only that “Pages 1.0.2 addresses issues with page navigation and organization.”

According to Apple, the update addresses an issue whereby a maliciously modified Keynote presentation could be constructed to retrieve files from the local system:

With a specially crafted Keynote presentation and the use of the “keynote:” URI handler, it is possible that local files could be read and then sent to an arbitrary network location. This issue has been addressed in two ways: References to external resources have been limited, and the registration of the “keynote:” URI handler has been removed. This issue does not affect Keynote versions prior to Keynote 2. Credit to David Remahl (http://www.remahl.se/david) for reporting this issue.

  1. Just because I can.

Right now I am encoding a divx to vcd with ffmpegx. downloading 7 files with bittorrent, seeding 7 more torrents, download and upload with Xfactor, 3 IM’s with fire, surfing in Safari, iCal, mail, Address book, Software update for Pages and Keynote. ftp server being used right now, iTunes…. More in the back too.

    I Love my Apple.

  2. With all that still running, I just opened the new Pages and Keynote. Not 1 slowdown, glitch or other damned thing. Just pure computer bliss.

PS these have been posted for our trolling friends. Don’t try, we all know the real truth.

  3. Did I mention I’m doing this all from my car on my Mac Mini with a 1X connection ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”grin” style=”border:0;” />

    Just beccause I can.

  4. Strangely, my ibook running 10.3.9 gets the update via software update but my iMac running Tiger doesn’t..odd. Maybe they release tiger version updates later or perhaps Pages and Keynote on Tiger don’t need it.

  5. Damn.. they fixed a hole before THurrott and CNET had a chance to gloat about it..

Oh well.. I’m sure CNET will mention something after the fact

“Apple fixes another CRITICAL FLAW in their Keynote presentation software which WOULD have let dozens of hackers in”

  6. globewriter:

Is pages and Keynote in a folder called iWork in your Applications folder?
If you move the apps out of the iWork folder and/or of of the root of the Applications folder, Sofware Update can’t find it. I ran into that problem. Moving Pages and Keynote where Apple was looking for them fixed the problem.

This statement is as accurate as Longhorn is late.

  8. Any one know how Pages fixes the problems with organization?

It’s a train wreck right now, so I hope they put in some features to make Pages usable.

    Anyone know what has changed?

  9. can’t believe they don’t start to update Keynote instead. Where are my layers…and group scaling. What about fixing flash export…or just a simple image-replacement organizer. I can’t believe they’re ignoring the people who actually work with this app. 🙁

  10. UW Dave. I bet it will do all mine does and a wee bit more. You must be lovin life. I have 2 1 gig sticks comming next week. Can’t wait. PS. My imac is faster with vpc and xp than my pc is, 1 gig P3. Ha Ha Ha. I love being a Mac user. Being a Mac user loves me.

  11. The updates wouldn’t show up in Software update for me until I re-created an “iWork” directory within the root applications folder and moved Pages 1.0.1 and Keynote 2.0.1 there.

This, IMO, is really stupid. Why can’t Apple just check for the installer receipts in the Library, or search the applications folder(s)?

  12. Thomas, I just got it for college, work and of course because it is a MAC! I will be ordering that other 1gig stick soon. I also got the 400gig hard drive. It makes my old G3 500 Mhz iMac feel very sluggish. I’m a Mac user all the way, and for those who corrected my earlier statement – My favorite company is Apple, “I Love My Mac!”

  13. not a troll: you must have done something odd because they show up in my update just fine. (G5 iMac whupping along with a Tiger in the tank).

I do want Apple to work on Pages. I want to ditch Word and its bloat. Export to PDF MUST carry over all html links.

  14. where’s the toned-down spreadsheet? I don’t need excel or DeltaGraph, but every once in a while it would be nice to make a graph or chart or something. I find the chart function in Keynote somewhat lacking.

  15. Its good to see that Apple is very responsive to security issues. They seem very quick to patch holes in their software.

But I doubt these are the only remaining holes in the Mac system. It may be true there are no “in the wild” mac viruses out there… but this should prove to everyone that it is possible for someone to malicously access personal data and possibly erase a user’s home directory.

  16. John, absolutely, that’s why Apple does not talk about security issue if not AFTER they release a patch/update.

Quite smarter than coming to announce security flaws, promise a patch which does not work, wait for massive infection, try another patch to fix the first patch and gloat “We are totally committed to provide a secure experience to our XP customers”

If it was not for anal-ysts to write about “Apple too has to fix security flaws” only Mac people would know about them when Software Update fires up.
