Endorphin.com has posted two sample QuickTime 7 H.264 demo movies that can be played in full screen. The videos are standard definition video but in the wide screen 16 X 9 format. The videos load in the QuickTime player so you can expand the player to fill the screen or use QuickTime 7 Pro to view in full screen.
The two movies, Land & Sea and Powered by Gasoline, show clips from endorphin.com videos that demonstrate the capability of the H.264 format to deal with different types of scenes and expand the original size video to full screen with very good results.
Company president Bob Franco told MacDailyNews, “We are amazed at how well the video scales up to full screen without all the ugly artifacts we are used to seeing when blowing up standard definition video. The files sizes are quite small considering the quality of the picture. We are learning more about H.264 and look forward to adding new full screen QuickTime 7 movies to endorphin.com this year.”
Because of the small file sizes of the movies, many older G4 machines are capable of playing back the 30 frames per second full screen movies.
“The ability to watch high quality H.264 full screen video on your computer monitor with QuickTime 7 has the potential to start shifting the delivery of some of our entertainment from cable, satellite, and broadcast, to the internet and to elevate the perception of online video,” Franco said.
Endorphin.com has been online since 1995 and started showing online videos in 2000. Their videos often appear on Apple.com’s QuickTime entertainment page.
