Windows users show strong curiosity about Apple’s Mac OS X Tiger

“Tiger, the new version of Apple Computer’s Mac OS X operating system seems to be creating almost as much interest among Windows users as among Macintosh users,” David Frith writes for Australian IT. “Tiger, which went on sale at $199 a little more than a week ago, is for Macs only, and for recent Macs with G3, G4 or G5 chips and lots of memory, at that. The curiosity of Windows users is strong. There’ve been glowing reviews in Windows-oriented magazines and other media.”

“The reason for such interest is the realisation that Windows XP has become bug-ridden and under constant attack from hackers, virus writers, adware and spyware peddlers as well as spammers, and needing an endless stream of security updates,’ Frith writes. “The next version of Windows, dubbed Longhorn, promises to be better but it’s not due until sometime next year.”

  1. An article not really worth noting.

Poor padding for an anemic news day.

Some days, ya just gotta say nothing.

Don’t say anything unless you can improve upon the silence.

This article is more of a waste time than an improvement of today’s info vacuum.

  2. … is for Macs only, and for recent Macs with G3, G4 or G5 chips and lots of memory, at that

you know all those “recent” Macs with G3 processors. Like my father’s 5 year old iMac, which runs Tiger credibly. Oh, and since when is 512MB “lots” of memory? It is the basic config on most new Macs.

Why do these tech writers insist on coming off like asshats? The newest OS runs on three generations of chips, spanning 6 years worth of hardware, and in most cases requires a cheap 3rd party memory upgrade for optimal performance. The quote makes it sound as if you have to have a near new model to run Tiger. How does XP run on a 5 year old PC? (i really don’t know, honest question)

  3. The next version of Windows, dubbed Longhorn, promises to be better but it’s not due until sometime next year.”

LFMAO… the optimism here is incredible.. Try 2007

  4. I dont think the interest in OS X from Windows is really due to viruses and other attacks on their platform. Boredom seems a much more plausible reason. What’s new and interesting on the window front these days ? Certainly not Longhorn.

Well, boredom or viruses the result will be the same. Next time a new version of Windows comes out, those that took a look at Tiger will certainly have higher expectation than it simply being better than XP.

Good enough might not be enough this time Mr. Gates.
