Vidi 0.4.4d9 for Mac OS X now available

Vidi 0.4.4d9 is a freeware application for watching and recording video and also FM radio on any Mac using any FireWire DV device.

With the Formac Studio DV, Studio DV/TV and StudioTVR video converters, Vidi can be used to switch video inputs and change TV channels and picture settings. With Studio devices that have FM tuners, Vidi can be used to listen to FM radio stations. Vidi includes a control palette for changing channels and adjusting picture settings when the Studio DV/TV is being used with other applications, such as QuickTime Broadcaster or iMovie. Vidi can record in the background, but you can also use Vidi to watch video at full size and full frame rate as it is being recorded. You can use Vidi to schedule recordings in advance. Vidi will perform the recordings at the scheduled times, as long as you’re not logged out.

  1. formac studio box munges up the audio when importing directly to imovie… if you are unfortunate enough to have purchased one (like i did), you can get round the problem by using vidi and then importing the dv file that vidi creates. if you are lucky enough not to already have a formac studio box then you can get round the problem by buying a more advanced dac device (ie pretty much anything else) from a less loathsome and uncaring company…

  2. Yeah, Formac was trying to get people to PAY for a firmware upgrade so I could use Formac Studio with iMovie 3.0 or latter.

    Talk about shitty customer service!

I’d never buy another Formac product, period.

  3. I’m not sure what the others are griping about, but I’ve had no problem with my Formac Studio TVR. I just record what I want and either watch it back or convert it into a .mov file using ffmpegX if I want to free up some space on my hard drive or save it to a CD/DVD.
I don’t use Vidi (yet!) or anything else, just turn the thing on and watch TV straight or record it.
