Would Bush or Kerry be better for technology?

“Back in May, tech leaders such as John Chambers, chief executive officer of Cisco Systems Inc., and Michael Dell, chairman of Dell Inc., threw their support behind George W. Bush. John Kerry has industry backing of his own, including that of Apple Computer Inc.

  1. granola eatin’, mtv propaganda following, pseudo sixties rebel wanna-bees: put as many pieces of metal into your skin as you want, and pretend that it is “cool” to be a hippie freak. but all it proves is that you are insecure and weak. that you have no individual self-esteem and need “the group” to tell you it’s all okay. of course, the same “group” is telling you to vote for kerry. so it’s understandable that you would blindly follow, even though the facts speak for themselves. bush has done a commendable job having inherited the busted clinton economy and issues of terrorism. the return of economic growth and low taxes is what has allowed mommy and daddy to buy you that iMac and iPod… and pay for your college… and otherwise give you whatever you want, even though you are just a little naive tool.

  2. What is wrong with you republican guys?

Why do you think that the French hate you so much? Good friends tell you when you are going to do something that is wrong. That is exactly what they did. You did not listen and now look at the mess. If you had listened you would have a more secure world, a lot more money in the bank and resources to look at the real threats that exist on all of us westeners (we are all together in this).

Europeans do not hate Americans. Do you get it?

Regards from a Dutch guy with a Mac.

  3. Effwierd – Amin8br,

You two tools take the cake. Keep dreaming dip shits. Clinton screwed the economy up at the end of his last term and handed it off to Bush, then 9/11, then corporate scandal and war. The economy is doing incredibly well considering what has happened over the last 4 years. You left wing nut jobs never, ever, mention these true facts of history. How can you look at yourselves in the mirror??????

George Bush will win thank god in 2004!

  4. What was Cheney doing before he ran with GW in 2000? Trying to get sanctions lifted off Iran. What was GW doing before being appointed POTUS? He was guv’ner of Texas. The most useless job in the nation. One thing that had any weight in that job were all the executions. More than any other guv’ner in history. So many, it would have been logistically impossible for GW to read through every case before signing off on execution. Of course, George doesn’t like to read. Execute the retarded? No problem for W. Execute the innocent? Sure, I’m a religious man; let god sort ’em out.

  5. My bad. here’s Badnarik’s professional background:

Became a Computer Programmer in 1977 for Commonwealth Edison at their nuclear power plant in Zion, Illinois; taught control room operators about computers. Was promoted to Senior Software Engineer for their Braidwood Nuclear Simulator project, which he managed from ’82-’85 (his favorite job assignment, basically a $6-million “computer game” for which he was totally responsible).

Moved to Montebello, CA, and held a “secret security” clearance at Northrop to work on the Stealth Bomber simulator, ’85-’87.

Relocated to San Luis Obispo, CA, in 1987 as a System Administrator and computer trainer at PG&E’s Diablo Canyon nuclear plant; spent 10 years as a member of the Applied Technology Services Team writing software and traveling the state installing real-time data-collection servers to their remote power stations; was an instructor for hundreds of employees teaching state-of-the-art systems being installed.

Moved to Austin, TX, in 1997 where he was a programmer and a trainer for Evolutionary Technologies International. He quickly became the Senior Trainer and began traveling across the U.S., and to Canada, England and Australia, as instructor, consultant and “high-tech diplomat.”

Became an independent computer consultant in 2001, but began to turn his attention (and talents as an instructor and communicator) to teaching his 8-hour “Introduction to the Constitution” class.

  6. effwerd…eff-you… please enjoy a “clinton cigar”. the charts in the 90’s went up and then they went down… and down… and the whole middle class who jumped on the earlier bandwagon midstream got killed in their 401k’s and such. oh yeah, and a ton of people lost their jobs, etc. this stuff doesn’t happen overnight. the bust came well before 2000, and the bush admin has been cleaning it up ever since.

  7. French, our friends????? What the hell are you smoking dutch boy? Give me a break. Of course it would be a mess over in Iraq. What idiot thinks that it wouldn’t be messy for a while. All you liberal left wingers that’s who. You really know you’re wrong though. It’s very obvious.

Japan and Germany didn’t go smoothly either for a while. You idiots live in a dream world if you don’t think this would be messy.

    GWB will win in 2004!

  8. Have you seen the John Kerry commercial in which George Bush pledges to help Seniors on Medicare and the very next day imposes a 17% premium increase – the biggest in history”? That ad is a stoke of genius on Kerry’s part and will surely gain him many votes among the uninformed. I found it so amazing that I did some homework on the issue. As it turns out the 17% increase was not imposed by President Bush but was mandated by the “balanced budget agreement” signed by President Clinton, voted into law by Senator John Kerry, and was scheduled to come into effect during the Bush administration. President Bush had no authority to reverse what had been voted into law by Senator Kerry during the Clinton administration. Once again Kerry is counting on the ignorance of the American people. Don’t be duped by his mendacity.

  9. That was beautiful G5Mac.

Ah the constant battle of minds. Both sides incapable of changing their mind about much of anything because that would mean the other side won something.
Whichever party wins the White House American technology will march on. Even if the Dems get the White House The Republicans will probably still have the majority in both the House and Senate, putting Kerry in the same position as Clinton was.
And to all those that use the blood & oil crap, the US still receives something around 70% of its imported oil from central and south America (venezuela).
About Haliburton, how many other companies have the resources or manpower to handle the job, to the idea of giving that huge contract to a foreign company is stupid, why whine about Haliburton getting the huge contract if you dont want jobs outsourced?
Personally I dont care what most europeans think especially the french as they already hate us for whatever reason, this is nothing new! If the US is seen as arrogant its because we see arrogance from most of the countries we deal with.
Even in the 21st century nationalism is very much alive.

  10. All the mud slinging aside, as a person who, as part of the corporate world, has had to work with both the defense and science organizations within the prior and current administrations (up through the Assistant Secretary level and the President’s Office of Science and Technology Policy, respectively, each no more than 3 down from the President himself) I have been amazed how much the government science staff has been depleted while the military/security staff have increased. In some cases the military/security staffs have more than doubled (even after taking into account the increase due to the creation of a whole new department — Homeland Security) while many of the science staffs I have come into contact with have been cut by as much as two thirds. I know political appointees within the science staff who would not accept an appointment again if Bush gets elected again.

While the increase in military/security staff is necessary in many cases, some of it is just padding (the technical term is featherbedding, IIRC from my high school economics class ages ago) and some slots are completely redundant with those in other organizations.

Bush can claim he is for science all he wants. He can claim he has authorized huge increases in budgets all he wants. (an interesting aside: Authorizations are NOT money! Authorizations are not appropriations which ARE money. Bush has rarely pushed for more appropriations for science.) When an administration cuts staff by as much as the Bush administration has it is clear they are not interested in science.

  11. You right wingnuts are living in a fantasy land if you think Saddam was ever going to become a viable threat or that the sanctions were ever going to be lifted. It’s just like the bullies to pick on a pussy like Saddam. Our perfect enemy, some toothless asswipe whose great idea for fighting the US is to hide in a hole in the ground. Some threat. And you dumb rightwing motherfuckers think ousting him was some kind of a feat.

  12. Bush admitted he wasn’t much for technology, at least, “not a big fan.” Kerry might not be, and maybe he is. We all know Bush isn’t a great fan of science. Heck, he’s willing to let millions of Americans suffer from Parkinson’s diesease, and Alzeihmers, because of his stance of stem-cell research, but we’re on our way to Mars! That’s it, let’s populate the Solar System with our diseases. How backwards can you get?

  13. I think one should have to pass a test in order to vote, become a parent, and post in this forum.

Get the facts by doing your own research and not relying on those of the ill-informed. If you still don’t want to Vote for Bush, write in John McCain.

  14. I find it utterly unbelievable that anyone with the good sense to use a mac could vote for George Bush. A clueless war criminal puppet for Rumsfeld’s mafia who was invading Iraq the minute the Florida election result was rigged.

  15. The use of derogatory terms like nutjob, idiot, scummy slut, dipshit et. al strongly implies not only a lack of morals and ethics, but also a feeling of desparation and lack of intelligence in certain camps.

MDN, these political debates bring out the worst in Mac users!

  16. It simply astounds me how people could still vote for Bush after what we’ve experienced the last 4 years. But then again, it simply astounds me that people still buy and use Windows products after what they’ve been through the last 4 years. Go figure!

The bright point if Bush wins is that I don’t have kids who will inherit the mess he leaves behind.

  17. YMSH, so all you’re going to do is drop some ad hominem fallacy about those you disagree with? Do you have substantive argument? You sound like you’re full of shit.
