Apple releases AirPort 4.0.2 for Windows XP SP2

Apple today released AirPort 4.0.2 for Windows which provides compatibility with Windows XP with Service Pack 2.

The AirPort 4.0.2 software release supports AirPort Express Base Stations.
AirPort Express with AirTunes allows users to play music from their Mac or PC directly to their home stereo or powered speakers. The highly portable AirPort Express can be used alone or added to an existing Wi-Fi network. AirPort Express provides four key features in a single product; it allows you to wirelessly play iTunes music, connect to the Internet over a broadband connection, extend the range of your existing AirPort Extreme or AirPort Express wireless network, and share a USB printer.

AirPort Express uses 802.11g wireless technology to deliver data rates of up to 54 megabits per second (Mbps) — almost five times as fast as before. AirPort Express is compatible with AirPort and AirPort Extreme-enabled computers, as well as Wi-Fi certified 802.11b or 802.11g PCs. With Apple’s 802.11b AirPort-equipped computers, users will experience a maximum data rate of 11Mbps. With Apple’s 802.11g AirPort Extreme card-equipped computers, users will experience maximum data rates of 54 Mbps.

AirPort Express features:
-AirTunes to play music wirelessly from your computer to your home stereo
-Share a single broadband connection with up to 10 users
-Allow everyone on your home network to share a single USB printer
-Extend the range of your existing AirPort Extreme or AirPort Express wireless network
-Custom profiles to store settings for up to five different locations

  1. That was pretty fast. Gotta help out those poor windows users wherever possible. The better the experience they have with an iPod and iTunes and now the Airport Express, the more likely that they will abandon their piece of swiss cheese of an OS and come in out of the rain.
