to spy:
are you referencing the VT cluster using 1100 dual 2GHz G5 towers and replacing them with the new G5 Xserves? yes that will make a huge boost in performance, and i do believe Xgrid was developed with cluster configurations in mind.
i do also wish that the media would correctly reference the Big Mac running OS X and not Linux. goes to prove that OS X is a serious server architecture as well as a killer desktop OS. Infinite Loop ROCKS!!!
now i wonder how much VT will be selling the G5 desktops they are off-loading from the cluster, i may have to get my hands on a few for ME!
If VT sells off their G5 desktops, they may be able to make money by selling them on eBay with a certificate stating that this computer was part of the #3 supercomputer.
Oh, wow – I would bid on a certified VT G5!
If the rumors are to be believed, VT will exchange the PMG5 with Xserve G5 to Apple on one-to-one basis. So, it will be up to Apple to refurbish and sell them.
“Apple is also cooking up a 64-bit release of Mac OS X. Both of these operating systems are expected in the first quarter of 2004.”
… this is news to me.
The ONLY (viable) OS is Microsoft XP that will be running a 64bit system.
Apple is again as allways behind.
Sputnik,
It might be news to you, but then again, I suspect that a lot of things are news to you. Why are you trolling on this forum?
“ONLY (viable) OS is Microsoft XP that will be running a 64bit system”??
And when exactly will it be running, Nostra-dumbass? Hate to break it to you Dr. IQ, but Sun, IBM, HP, Compaq and SGI made oodles of money on viable 64 bit operating systems, not to mention that Linux also has 64 bit versions. If you’re referring only to consumer OS’es, then you made a big boo-boo by using “viable” and “Microsoft XP” in the same sentence.
Nothing burns me more than know-nothing wintel fanboys who have the nerve to lurk on Mac sites and spew the MS party line. Go away lemming, your cliff is calling.
