eBay names new board member; Fred Anderson of Apple Computer joins board

eBay, the “world’s online marketplace,” today announced the appointment of Fred D. Anderson to its board of directors. Anderson’s term on the board begins immediately.

“Fred is an outstanding addition to eBay’s board,” said Meg Whitman, eBay’s president and CEO in the press release. “Fred brings a wealth of talent and experience as a corporate executive and director to the eBay board. He will be a solid addition to an already stellar board of directors.”

Anderson is the executive vice president and chief financial officer of Apple Computer, Inc., a position he has held since April 1996. Prior to joining Apple, Anderson served in a similar capacity at Automatic Data Processing for seven years.

Anderson is a graduate of Whittier College in California where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. He received an M.B.A. from the University of California, Los Angeles. Anderson previously practiced as a certified public accountant in the state of California and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Anderson is a retired captain in the U.S. Air Force and currently serves on the board of directors at 3Com and e.piphany.

eBay’s board of directors also includes: Pierre Omidyar, founder and chairman of the board; Meg Whitman, president and CEO; Scott Cook, chairman of the executive committee of Intuit Inc.; Robert Kagle, general partner of Benchmark Capital Partners; Dawn Gould Lepore, vice chairman of the Charles Schwab Corporation; Philippe Bourguignon, managing director designate of the World Economic Forum and former chairman of Club Mediterranee; and Thomas Tierney, founder and chairman of the Bridgespan Group.
