Feb 27, 06 - 12:59 pm Comment from: nuflux

That. was. BRILLIANT.

Who has time to do this stuff?

MDN word: simple. No, really.

Feb 27, 06 - 01:00 pm Comment from: ndelc

That was absolutely brilliant! I'm going to save a link to send to the marketing mgr at my company next time he puts his 2 cents in about my "simplistic package design".

Feb 27, 06 - 01:01 pm Comment from: Black Guy

Me Approve. Looks just like MS packaging now.

Feb 27, 06 - 01:04 pm Comment from: Chunky Monkey

Every major branding department in every company should be forced to study this video.

Actually, ummm, maybe not . . . let the rest of them continue to suck.

Apple will rule them all.

Feb 27, 06 - 01:08 pm Comment from: Macromancer

So true. So true.

Feb 27, 06 - 01:09 pm Comment from: Ni4Ni| Spliff

OMG BEST POST EVAR!

Feb 27, 06 - 01:10 pm Comment from: ROB DUNFORD

Done using Motion?

Feb 27, 06 - 01:10 pm Comment from: Viridian

That was BRILLIANT! The very best satire resonates because of how closely it strikes to the truth. Kudos to the creators for an instant classic.

Feb 27, 06 - 01:14 pm Comment from: JadisOne

LOL .. Too funny.

But the sad thing about it is that most clients we have are like that. Just want to fill up the white space.

Feb 27, 06 - 01:14 pm Comment from: DJ

The creator of the vid deserves a prize.

What about the 'Grim Alternity' Award?

cool smirk

Feb 27, 06 - 01:15 pm Comment from: Schmutz!

Several people in the office didn't get it. One guy thought the improvements made sense from a shopping experience. Says it ooks more like what he's use to.

Sigh!

That is why Microsoft is still in business.

Feb 27, 06 - 01:15 pm Comment from: Alice

some of the final panels weren't all that bad, but the front panel was horrible and totally true.

Feb 27, 06 - 01:17 pm Comment from: Bob

That's freak'n hilarious.

Feb 27, 06 - 01:27 pm Comment from: zupchuck

Let me post this again... (Where'd the original go, MDN?).

I would laugh too much - Paul Mercer who was instrumental in the original design of the iPod (through Apple's purchase of Pixo when it could roll it's own) is working with Samsung to design a PlaysForSure player.

Feb 27, 06 - 01:28 pm Comment from: Emil

This must be how they do everything from software (sorry, should be bugs!) to hardware

Feb 27, 06 - 01:28 pm Comment from: scott schor

that's very funny stuff.

Feb 27, 06 - 01:31 pm Comment from: stenmark

how can I save this stuff? I desperately need this clip. Quicktime if possible

Feb 27, 06 - 01:31 pm Comment from: William

"Some of the side panels aren't all that bad"

Aren't all that bad? The current simple approach makes you just want to take it out of the box and hold it.

Feb 27, 06 - 01:35 pm Comment from: The Sad Thing

Is that it's true.

Feb 27, 06 - 01:37 pm Comment from: Joe the Farmer

I thought it was great. I showed it to my PC-using friend and he said "But Microsoft would never make an iPod."

-_-

Feb 27, 06 - 01:40 pm Comment from: mac user 47

That was awesome.

Feb 27, 06 - 01:42 pm Comment from: maczealot

Innovative packaging.

Feb 27, 06 - 01:43 pm Comment from: mintdog

freaking brilliant. really well done.

Feb 27, 06 - 01:50 pm Comment from: Peter J

so funny. so sad. so true.

Design usually suffers with big corporations. No negative space. Just fill it up fill it up fill it up!

Good thing there's Apple

Feb 27, 06 - 02:00 pm Comment from: John

Huh? But the new packaging is WAAAY better! I mean now when I go to Bust Buy or Big-Box-Mart, I can see right away that this must be the best product on the shelves. After all, what other MP3 player has so much STUFF written all over its box. That means it's the best, right? Right?

Moo (actually baa)

wink

Feb 27, 06 - 02:04 pm Comment from: To save it

Just paste the "here" link into Safari's Downloads window.

Feb 27, 06 - 02:30 pm Comment from: hmm??

paste the link into safari's DL window? there's nowhere to paste in that window...

Feb 27, 06 - 02:32 pm Comment from: didnt work

:-( i pasted the link into the DLs window and it just DLed a file called "watch.html". bummer

Feb 27, 06 - 02:37 pm Comment from: Beryllium

That characterizes the marketing and sales mentality to perfection!

Feb 27, 06 - 02:46 pm Comment from: megame

funnies thing I have seen in a long time.

Feb 27, 06 - 02:50 pm Comment from: Larry the Lawyer

Funny...
But if they did it with Apple products - made fun of them-, Apple would sue the creator for copyright violation.

Feb 27, 06 - 02:59 pm Comment from: Anger Monkey

laughing my ass off.

Feb 27, 06 - 03:21 pm Comment from: Nick

This is so perfect. So perfect.

Feb 27, 06 - 03:43 pm Comment from: iThink

Yes, everyone agrees Apple has taste.
Gorgeous products, beautifully packaged. Sheer artwork.

Microsoft wouldn't know good taste if it came and bit it's monopolistic arse

Yet we all moan when Apple make 'arty' ads. Even MDN think they should make their ads more 'Microsoft/PC' like.

Feb 27, 06 - 03:55 pm Comment from: C.M.

Psst... You can find it here:

http://s59.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=17U22RSAF1B262D9SPKIVRWQQB

Sshh!

Feb 27, 06 - 04:08 pm Comment from: Jake

Wow--hilarious!!

Feb 27, 06 - 04:41 pm Comment from: BuriedCaesar

That was absolutely hilarious! Espcially liked the "expanded sys reqs" fold-out off the edge of the box... Actually, I'm surprised that made it through to "final" - I'm sure someone up the line would likely have suggested making just that side of the box bigger to accommodate the additional information.

But then again, if they did that they'd have had to start all over again with the other three sides, and who knows what else would need fixing, and then they'd probably just end up caught in, um, well, an infinite loop...

[ducks and covers] shut eye

Feb 27, 06 - 04:51 pm Comment from: Hidden Truth

Very funny indeed.

As sad as some MS packaging is, Apple could stand to learn a thing or two about MS packaging as well.

You don't have to over do it like MS does but it'd be nice if your Apple product packaging actually told you what you are buying. Or at least it's supposed to do.

Funny none-the-less.

Feb 27, 06 - 05:02 pm Comment from: H Spank

This Microsoft commercial has to bee seen to be believed:

Feb 27, 06 - 05:10 pm Comment from: Ampar

2 FUN KNEE ! ! !

(meanwhile, back at the ranch, MS executives are puzzled as to why this is a parody)

Feb 27, 06 - 05:37 pm Comment from: Beans

Nail right on the head!

Feb 27, 06 - 05:38 pm Comment from: na

IF Microsoft made the packaging for the Apple iPod, it would be very simplistic. It would have 12 words on it. "This is not an I-pod, it is a waste of space. Buying this product will not make you look cool or get girls without paying for them. Go but the Iriver e10-33995 2006_FEB_I-PodKiller edition." All 12 words in black ink on black background. Instant classic.

Feb 27, 06 - 07:00 pm Comment from: Garry

I heard they are gonna release Vista in 6 different versions ? Whats up with that ? Just to make life more incompatible ? How many 10.4.4's are there ?
