  1. I like when he says that the back is really durable, and when he slips the iPod into his pocket.

I kept my iPod in my pocket for a couple of hours, noticed that the back and screen were getting totally scratched up from rubbing against the cotton cloth of my pocket, and moved the iPod to its case instead.

The case it came with continued to scratch it up every time I removed or replaced the iPod. Finally I just gave up and figured I would have to settle for a nicely working, yet scratched all to hell iPod.

Five years later, and Apple finally has a solution – a $99 case! Brilliant!

  2. Brilliant. Apple was so far ahead of the curve, and so many people thought this was a flop.

    Interesting that:

    -The crowds were smaller then
-There was no Keynote app for the slideshow, but the slides were simple and beautiful, just like now
-iBook really is dated after 5 years. It’s had a great run, now it’s high time for a replacement
-Steve doesn’t look any older now…that hyperbaric chamber has paid for itself, and then some

  3. IT has it backwards: FireWire offers 400 Kb/s and USB 2 offers 480 Kb/s. However, all USB 2 devices share that bandwidth evenly, while FireWire gives out its bandwidth only as needed.

The moral? Hook your iPod directly up to your computer; don’t use a hub.

  4. wow – what a beautiful day it was!
Seeing this mov and my new nano brings a tear to my eye ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”grin” style=”border:0;” />

watching this i remeber why i am still hanging on to my very first 5GB iPod which I bought of the very first batch at the MacExpo in London (nov 2001)

  5. Hey, Chris in the Natti.
I think you meant Al Gore, not Bush. Remember, Gore invented the Internet–not.

  6. Gosh. I remember that. EVERYBODY thought it was too expensive and would be a complete flop. People on the boards were screaming that they would NEVER buy one.

    I guess, like analysts, they can be wrong. ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”grin” style=”border:0;” />

  7. People complain about Steve’s hyperbole and RDF, so when Steve said:
“With iPod, listening to music will never be the same again.” He was not exaggerating! If he was “distorting” reality at the time it has certainly become the reality here and now. That’s the creative process, envision a future reality and then make it happen!

  8. “iMac, iBook, iPod.”

So when is the nano going to be rebranded the macPod..and the iPod w/video the macPodPro??

  9. Whaaaa? What are people talking ’bout – Steve looks heaps older (his hair’s completely white now, for one), USB2 is heaps better than Firewire (it’s faster and the cords are much less chunky), and that presentation looked crappy – using that horrible font and all. His presentations now have improved about 100 fold.

  10. Jeez USB2 only has a theoretical peak of 480 Mb/s (thats megabits, not bytes) which has never been reached outside intels controlled lab, it has an average data transfer of 100 with burst not even reaching 200. FireWire has a peak of 400 with its average just over 300. For example it took over 3 hours to copy 60GB of data over USB2 yet only 1 hour for the same over FireWire. USB2 is shite plain & simple which obviously you are Hans.

  11. MDN: Love you to death. visit 15 times a day…

but, never ever ever ever link or load a you tube video again.
    Ever.

The image is crusty, the interface is ok but unresponsive, and the sound quality sucks scissors. Spend two minutes on Google and you will be sure to find a reasonable quality QT of the same video.

Don’t settle for mediocrity. That’s why Windows is so succesful.
