Queen Elizabeth gets Apple iPod

Queen Elizabeth has purchased the world’s hottest gadget — an Apple iPod — a 6GB silver iPod mini to be exact. “The 79-year-old monarch despatched a flunkey to buy the mini digital music player which has become all the rage,” John Kay reports for The Sun.

“‘The Queen loves music and was impressed by how small and handy the iPod is,’ a royal insider told The Sun. “Obviously it is quite complicated to download songs, but I’m sure one of the courtiers will do it for her. Prince Andrew will probably also help out because he’s a real dab hand with gadgets,” Kay writes.

MacDailyNews Take: “Thy choicest gifts in store, on her be pleased to pour…” It’s not at all complicated to download songs from the iTunes Music Store — Queen Elizabeth could do it — but if we had courtiers, we’d probably make them do it, too. If by “downloading,” Kay really means “ripping” instead, those courtiers would definitely be doing it for us, complete with artwork. GSTQ!

  1. If it’s good enough for the Queen, it should be good enough for Bill Gates…

Magic Word “cause” — as in: Getting an iPod would cause Bill to see the light.

  2. Well done Your Majesty! Now, I’d like a tiny word about that honour you received, Mr Gates… ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”cool smile” style=”border:0;” />

  3. Let’s trust in the halo effect…

Liz, next make the switch to Macs! – I recommend a good forum (MDN of course) and we’ll reserve the user name HMQE2♥Macs

  4. Seriously. I agree it isn’t news, or perhaps shouldn’t be news.

But the news is – that it has been reported as news. ie the news is that loads of other newsmen thought it should be news….if you get my meaning?!

  5. My father in law at age 75 is also now sporting a 1Gb Shuffle. I think its great these folk are in on this (before it all goes up in smoke tomorrow of course).

  6. > “Obviously it is quite complicated to download songs, but I’m sure one of the courtiers will do it for her. >

They’re all inbred, so I guess it is difficult for them.
    I’m English, I know.

  7. It’s good to be the Queen…

Next: Queen Elizabeth decrees that all Britain should have iPods. The House of Commons argues endlessly, but eventually passes the legislation which is quickly passed by the House of Lords. All Hail Queen iLizabeth!

  8. Somebody go out to the iTMS and make a playlist fit for a Queen!! I’d do it, but I’m at work on a machine to which we’re not allowed to add software. [For those wondering, I’m on lunch]

    a few (obvious) recommendations:

“God Save the Queen” by the Sex Pistols
“Queen of Hearts” by Juice Newton
    “Dancing Queen” by ABBA
“Queen and the Soldier” by Suzanne Vega
    “Queen B!%$H” by David Bowie

    You get the idea…

  9. Dear Fellow Patrons of Music, Here and Abroad,

It is most utmost joy that I share with you all my recent purchase of the Apple iPod Mini. It has been a singular delignt listen to my favourite music c in such a convenient manner. My husband Pri nce Phillip has been filled wth envy and plans to purchase one as well. The immense amount of freedom and the simplicity of usage has me quite addicted to playing music 24/7, as the young people say nowadays. One can never have too much Killers , Mew, and Gwen Stefani at the palace, I say.

I will be sending one to the Emperor of Japan, however I’m sure he will have to enjoy it in secret, as his countrymen would rather have him using a device from Sony no doubt. What is Atrac? Sounds like a type of indigestion.

I shall update you all on my blog in the coming weeks as to the state of music at Buckingham Palace.

    Warmest regards,

    Queen Elizabeth
    aka Queeny Love
