How to change your Apple ID

“Many of us still have the same email address associated with our Apple ID that we made years and years ago when we got our first device,” Anthony Bouchard writes for iDownloadBlog. “We use it to sign into each and every one of our devices when we buy one new from the store or restore an existing one to factory settings.”

“On the other hand, times change. Sometimes you may get new email addresses, and sometimes you want to use something new to log in with rather than your high school email address,” Bouchard writes. “Perhaps you’ve made one that is a little more professional looking and seek to use it instead.”

Bouchard writes, “Apple provides a way to change your Apple ID email address so you can use something different to sign into everything you use. In this tutorial, we’ll show you how that’s done.”

    1. So true. Isn’t it crazy that after all these years, Apple is unable to do such a thing? I wonder why? I mean do they seriously want us to buy it twice? I know I love to support Apple but forking over thousands of dollars again for the same apps seems rather ridiculous. (Some apps are like 300 or more)

  1. For those who just want to change the look of your email address..just take advantage of aliases…keep the same account..but you can use the exact same account but have different “names” (a “professional” email address..one for shopping (so you can see which company is sending you spam), one for..whatever..etc).

Aliases have been available forever and are underutilized.

    1. Sure that works for a professional eMail or to avoid using my favorite “dorkvader or bootlicker”. It still doesn’t solve many of us with original emails from services that no longer exist or has changed hands. Purchases used with those address are stuck with those names. We can’t transfer it to our .mac, .me or .icloud accounts. We can’t transfer it to newly established email account because of either moving to a new location/services or just deletion from a compromised or hacked account.
