Google’s Eric Schmidt is joining the Pentagon’s new ‘innovation board’

“The former CEO of Google, Eric Schmidt, now executive chairman of its parent company Alphabet, is about to start helping the military improve what it does by borrowing concepts and ideas straight from Silicon Valley,” Kirsty Styles reports for TNW. “Schmidt will chair the new 12-person Defense Innovation Advisory Board, which is being brought in to help the organization use tools like ‘rapid prototyping, iterative product development, complex data analysis… mobile and cloud applications.'”

“The remaining board members will be chosen by Schmidt,” Styles reports. “Yes, the head of one of the world’s most powerful companies, which has a probably unparalleled, intimate knowledge of all of our lives, is about to start advising the military on how to improve its business practice. The business of killing people, that is.”

“Apart from the worrying realization that the military doesn’t quite grasp what the cloud is yet, this is potentially the most frightening thing I’ve ever heard,” Styles writes. “Google owns human-like robots, artificial intelligence that’s nearly as smart as humans and it definitely knows where you’re going to hide.”

  1. A mole inside the military what could this possibly mean?

-Gives a whole new meaning to back door.
    – Improvements in the “aim for Bin Laden hit Saddam Hussein” missile guidance system.
    – A whole chain of Guantanamo on the Bay resorts across the country with the motto “From see to see.”
    – Apple losing it’s appeal at the U.S. Supreme Court over $450 million e-book case (hey I know it’s far fetched but this is humorous satire).
    – Laser beamed glassholes.
    – Self driving drones, all coordinated by a new system called cloudnet.

All this and much much more so stay tuned folks.

  2. ““Google owns… artificial intelligence that’s nearly as smart as humans”
No, I don’t think that is true. We’ve got a long way to go before that can be said.

  3. I fear for a military that relies on Google’s half-baked, perpetual beta products. And I fear for the world when that military is the mightiest of all militaries around the planet, the US military…
