“Trip Chowdhry, with Global Equities Research, has opined that [Apple Watch] orders may have been as high as 2.5 million this weekend,” Tiernan Ray reports for Barron’s.
“‘Apple is not expected to announce weekend Pre-orders, since they stated in their previous earnings call, that do not want to provide this information to the competition,’ he writes in a note this morning,” Ray reports. “‘However, based on our research, we estimate, that pre-orders this weekend will comfortably exceed 2.5 million watches,’ he opines. ‘Also, we are comfortable with our CY2015 estimates that Apple will sell 40 to 42 million Apple Watches.'”
Ray reports, “Chowdhry doesn’t say how he calculated his 2.5 million estimate.”

Sold my Fossil shares months ago when Apple Watch on the horizon. Fossil good company, nice stuff bu products within Apple Watches price range. The uber expensive watch makers might still be ok but those within Apple Watches range is in trouble.

Ok, so that’s 2 ‘guesses’ so far.. 2.5 million here and 957,000 based on 9,080 e-receipts by Slice Intelligence.
The 957,000 was only US. And I believe it was for a single day. I think the 2.5 world wide figure for the whole weekend is a ‘safe’ estimate and a bit low.
