Desperate Samsung again resorts to Apple-bashing in new TV ads

“Unsurprisingly, Samsung has come out with anti-iPhone 6 ads, and it happened remarkably soon after the phone’s official announcement,” Chris Smith writes for BGR. “But unlike previous Samsung hits at Apple, which were often pretty funny or at least somewhat clever, the new ads are just terrible.”

“The company is taking shots at everything Apple announced including the bigger iPhone 6 and Apple Watch, and even Apple’s live-streaming problems — but hilarious isn’t a word to describe any of the new spots,” Smith writes. “What’s interesting is that Samsung isn’t making fun of Apple customers anymore, which was a strange approach anyway to convince iPhone fans to switch to the next big thing in previous years, but instead it’s making fun of Apple Genius employees, who are supposedly making fun of their own products.”

Smith writes, “Furthermore, Samsung is making fun of Apple’s big screen devices and wearables, while at the same time promoting its own devices that were unveiled just days ago and happen to be… big screen devices and wearables.”

MacDailyNews Take: To be clear, Samsung peddles significantly inferior big screen devices and wearables.

MacDailyNews Take: If they’re down to criticizing live streaming of an event and promoting split-screen multitasking and freakin’ styluses, they’re massively screwed and they know it.

Also, it takes a special kind of tone-deafness to produce such ads when, without the ads’ target, Samsung Electronics’ smartphones, tablets, and stupidwatches (currently headed back the drawing board, patents and trade dress be damned) wouldn’t even exist.

Samsung, your desperation is showing and it’s at least as unbecoming as your slavish copycat thievery.

  1. These guys aren’t even funny, a fatal mistake.
Apple bashing on the TV show The Big Bang Theory is funny, these guys are just pathetic.

Samsung doesn’t even know how to copy a commercial properly.

    1. First, I think about 99% of people won’t get the one about streaming because they don’t know about the problems that Apple had. Second, Scamscum is just blatantly dishonest. Their multitasking solution is the same as Apple’s – quickly switching between app screens. This is like their “Wall Huggers” ad where they conveniently forget that the iPhone has better battery life than any of their phones.

  2. You have to admit those ads are kind of funny…

Ok those 2 guys look like idiots. They think it’s second degree and they need that to please the samsung audience. But IMO those people who buy copycats won’t even understand.

As MDN pointed out, you must be so desperate to air such ads. After Microsoft, Sam Sung is picking at Apple and it shows who is the boss. For years those PC users were leader of the market and Apple was the underdog. Now those android users, you must be PC user to buy Android, or really stupid are the underdog.

  3. The whole stylus video is just pathetic, the stylus died back in 07. If I’m not mistaken Samsung is the only phone company to actually use a stylus. Samsung USED to be great before the iPhone came out with its multimedia phones but ever since iPhone came out they’ve been copying since. Why would anyone buy a copy when you can get the original and really? Bashing apple customers is going to make them switch to you? HA truly pathetic, I can’t wait until they start going under just like blackberry.

    1. Styluses are really great for some things, if you need to take notes or write down something, your fingers work but styluses are better. Ones that work with the iPhone screen break very easily, so you end up going back to your finger. I might be a small minority but I would buy a decent Apple stylus for my iPad if it didn’t wear out or break easily. And worked well.

  4. Lowlife is as lowlife does!

    Samsung you are absolutely pathetic..
You keep sinking lower and lower.
And the funny part is you think these stuff makes you look good.
    Lol
You have some serious pain coming your way samy !

  5. I can’t imagine anyone deciding to buy a Samsung phone or watch on the basis of these commercials. They might appeal to Apple Haters, but they wouldn’t buy an Apple product anyway.

    What a was of advertising dollars. Maybe stupidity is in their DNA;

    1. If a company doesn’t believe in an ad then it only runs it in YouTube. You won’t ever see this on TV because even Samsung knows they won’t work and this not worth millions to buy spots on TV.

  6. Wow. These aren’t even funny. In fact, they don’t even do a good job at bashing Apple. Looks like Samesung’s ad agency is desperate to at least put SOMETHING out there, even it it’s crap.

  7. I saw a link yesterday to a story which was titled something like ‘Apple finally realized what Samsung knew all along’. It basically said that Samsung ‘innovated’ the big screen smartphone- that they had super prescient capabilities on this one, and even implied that Apple should get used to following the ‘new leader’ in mobile device innovation. After I picked myself up off the floor from the subsequent laughing fit, I glanced at the comments section, which was clearly filled with Samsung/Android lemmings. All were boasting quite heavily about their Samsung devices, and bashing Apple of course. But the meat of every argument they made rested upon the fact that their Samsung Note (or whatever it’s called) could multitask (ie show two screens in one) and had a ’super’ stylus. They were gushing with fanaticism over these things! Really? I couldn’t respond to any of them because I wasn’t about to waste my time on such idiocy, but is that really all Samsung has going for it?

  8. Samsung don’t realise they are oozing desperation. How stupid. Well, actually these ads probably done by US people. Samsung in Korea don’t understand US so they pay a shitload for someone else to do something.

      1. Probably was, too. But put on your tin foil hat for a second and search for the account of one person who was watching map.ipviking.com during the keynote and observed a massive and on-going attack from Brazil to San Francisco.

It just might be easier to get approval to produce a commercial like that if you know in advance that there will be a problem.

    1. Comparing a 4.7″ screen to a 5.7″ screen is the first mistake. In fact, find a Samsung phone with a less than 5″ screen that boasts 1080p or higher for resolution. Second. ‘720p’ not 750…is HD. And it was Samesung that touted that fact when they rolled out on of their plethora (that means many…) of TV’s years ago stating your eye can’t see the difference after a certain distance.
Now compare the 6+ to the NotePoor I mean Note 4 and yes the Note has a ‘2k’ resolution…Great fantastic, all for the innovation. But lets talk about the downside no one wants to mention… That’s going to require twice as much battery and Samesung is going with 3200mAH batteries for it. That means that a ‘slightly’ bigger battery is going to run out twice as fast as the 6+ at 2930mAH. But…but Samesung has that new powersave everyone talks about. (HINT: Many of us have already figured out to flip an iPhone to greyscale you can get the home button to triple tap your Accessibility features, we just don’t need to because our battery lasts…) So how will that 2k display look in black and white? Like a really crisp, sharp, black and white tv from the 70’s. Samesung’s fans will enjoy it.

At the end of the day no one cares if someone like Apple or Samsung/Android…Or at least they shouldn’t. Rock out to whatever makes you happy. But if we’re going to compare things…then do it right.

    2. While I’m not a fan of Apple’s new screen pixel real estates (effectively 750p and 1080p) I do understand Apple’s point.

People have *NOT* been screaming for higher and higher pixel densities even though some vendors have been in a spec race over them (after initially loudly bashing Apple’s “retina” display as 100% not needed). No one has ever heard a customer in the real world say, “400 pixels per inch is NOT ENOUGH! I NEED 500 pixels per inch!!!!!”)

What people *HAVE* been screaming for are 1) a larger physical phone, 2) longer battery life, and 3) better contrast & better color [especially in daylight conditions].

Apple’s compromise screen resolutions deliver what customers want and need. They do not support some arbitrary specification race that does not really matter.

    3. That’s pretty much all nerds have going for them… numbers and stats; real world experience is completely non-existent in their lives.

People who actually live and do things, care more about how the device helps them accomplish those things, then they do about spouting of a list of useless, gimmicky features and technical specs.

Having a 5-6″ device in your hand with 4 times more pixels than the 50″ TV in your living room is completely ludicrous and utterly useless for anything other than “bragging” rights.

    4. 60 inches and larger is the designated sweet spot to take advantage of 4K resolution. Even some networks still broadcast in 720p – namely ABC, Fox, and ESPN. (There are articles on how 720p handles motion better than 1080i.) Oh, and the highest broadcast resolution is 1080i – not 1080p or 4K. Even 4k streaming is compressed and you’re not getting the true source resolution.

At a HDTV shoot out last month, the 2 TV’s that got voted by experts to have the best picture were 1080p TVs – beating out the 4K tvs.

So keep bragging about that little 5 inch quad-HD Samsung screen. I’m sure you’ll be impressed.

    5. Can the average human eye tell the difference of those two screen resolutions? I know a lot of young people who wear glasses and their eyesight isn’t all that good. I’m in my 60’s and I can’t even see individual pixels on standard displays so it wouldn’t matter to me if the display has only 750p resolution. I can assure I have no interest in 2K or 4K TVs because they’re of no value to me.

  9. I don’t understand any of these commercials. Especially the watch one. They seem to be dissing the watch “look a watch for the ages” “just put the phone in your back pocket any genius can see that” and then at the end of the ad they show the Samsung phone. So “watches are pointless and irrelevant, and here’s ours please buy it.” What?

  10. Samsung reaps its profits from clueless people and there are a more than enough of them to keep the money flowing no matter what Apple puts out..

Like George Carlin said.. “Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.”
