     It’s brand new, it scans for the malware, the other releases just patched java, this does both.

     It cleans ans secures.

       Snow Leopard doesn’t run on PPC Macs, so no OS upgrade is possible…and the last PPC Mac is now just a shade over its “5 years of support” Apple policy.

       Personally, I’ve already upgraded most of my fleet, but there’s still one production machine that had to wait. It was ready to go last year, but the 2010 Mac Pro update was weak, so I waited for the next Mac Pro refresh. Obviously, I’m still waiting.

       But **not personally**, current Stats show that 20% of Mac Owners are still running Leopard or older … that’s not an insignificant chunk of customers to ignore …

       … plus, this is a security update we’re talking about.

       Schools which have a large installed base of older Macs can’t afford to just “keep current.” I understand and support Apple’s decision to leave PPC behind with Snow Leopard, but I do expect that they keep up with important security updates. One of the selling points of getting Macs in schools was how they have a statistically longer useful life than their PC counterparts. Well, we have a few PCs older than our 100+ iBooks and eMacs still getting XP security updates. We also have a couple hundred MacBooks and newer iMacs, and next year we’re getting iPads, but right now, our older Macs are in use and needed daily.

   Come on! Who cares if it is the 3rd update. This is the first “Semi Pro” malware that has hit Apple. The deserve a little time and room for being a virgin.
