Apple updates iPad 2 Smart Covers with new color choices

“Apple [today] updated its iPad 2 Smart Cover offerings, perhaps most notably discontinuing the orange polyurethane cover and replacing it with a new dark gray cover,” Eric Slivka reports for MacRumors.

“The interior side of the Smart Cover facing the iPad screen had previously been a uniform gray color on all models with the exception of the (PRODUCT) RED version,” Slivka reports. “All Smart Covers are now a consistent color inside and out.”

Slivka reports, “Apple offer five different leather Smart Covers, and sources reports that Apple has slightly tweaked the color on the navy version to make it ‘more navy’ than the original version. All other colors (tan, black, cream, and red) remain unchanged.”

    1. I always figured Apple had hired the design genius who worked at GAP a few years back who decided that everyone in the US just _wanted_ to wear orange pants. GAP went all in on that style; needless to say hardly anyone bought them.

  1. Cool. But to be honest, these covers look good but they dont really protect the device itself. I have the blue one and I must say that I would have been better off if I had gotten a case for it. Yes, the cover sort of cleans the screen but what about the back? Have younger relative around who can get kind of clumsy and set it down on a wet surface or accidentally drop it makes the smart cover pretty useless in my viewpoint. But it still gives the iPad 2 a stylish look.

  2. Still love the original heavy rubber case of the first iPad. It’s indestructible, and makes you feel like your iPad is too.

Looks like it came from a Soviet surplus store, but I liked that. Ives & Jobs could embrace a totally utilitarian design from time to time. When it’s right.
