Apple’s App Store hits 10 billion downloads milestone

Apple’s App Store, which opened on July 10, 2008, has now reached the 10 billion downloads milestone. No word, yet, on the identity of the $10,000 iTunes Gift Card that goes to the 10 billionth downloader.

MacDailyNews Take: Congrats on reaching an amazing number is such a short period of time, Apple!

  1. I’m waiting for apple to release my name and send me the card ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”wink” style=”border:0;” />

    Congrats to who ever got the $10k card.
    Wonder how long it will take for 1billion Mac app store downloads.

  2. I hope the Mac developers get the idea in the Mac App Store. You actually are better off with 100,000 $5 sales than 10,000 $50 sales, because ten times as many satisfied customers are talking about your product. And $5 is a casual purchase, if you think you might like and use an app. $50 gets a lot more scrutiny. $100 is not gonna happen unless it extends my life or part of my anatomy.

    2nd that. $.99 apps get my attention, and lots of my money…
    Look at angry birds, $.99 and well over a million sales. If it were $5.99 it would still be great, but prob 50k sales at most.

    @suck it android
    That cracked me up!

  4. I downloaded a movie Friday evening from the iTunes store, and a download that should have taken a few minutes actually took about five hours. (I was NOT a happy camper!)

    I now wonder whether my connection to the iTunes store was clogged by people downloading apps … all hoping to be the big winner of Apple’s prize for the 10 billionth download. I’m guessing the answer is yes.

  5. And to all of you who, with heads held high through the smug pollution, are still hijacking your iPhones to void the warranty and enjoy perhaps dozens of application choices, I raise my glass to you.

    You’re so cute; just like a kitty in a window.
