Apple’s Mighty Mouse has undergone a dissection at the hands of MacDailyNews reader “Sailfish.”

“Sailfish” has posted a photo album along with the explanation that, “the horizontal and diagonal scrolling wasn’t working correctly so I investigated. A good mouse, I would like to see the ball button replaced with a more solid trackball w/optical sensors.”

dude.. this was a headline on MSNBC (arguably, not a real network, but hey)..

who’s fault is that?

is it Bill Gates desperately trying to promote the thing? no.

people love reading about apple because they do things that are interesting. stop acting so surprised.

Big deal. Any mouse will work w OS X. But this is the first by apple, and you have to admit, it is different than any other multi-button mouse.

Thelonious, don’t worry the 3.0 Ghz argument will be moot by next year. So people can stop whining!

(1) If the article mentions a mouse, DON’T CLICK ON IT.

Yes, by following that quick and easy single step, you will prevent a sudden “health concern” from befalling you!

Thats the problem. Most of you guys have tied your sense of self respect so closely to your OS choice that you seemingly have to defend it all the time. Who gives a crap if there arent 3.0 Ghz G5′s. While all you worry warts pine over the lack of something to give you bragging right over your PC buddies, the rest of us are using what we have now to do actual stuff.

I think Apple did a wonderful job, they integrated more features into a one button mouse concept that’s not intimidating to new users of computers.

The one button can be the default “out of the box” setup and no newbie will know any better.

However the ball button is soft, lose in the “hole”, it loses traction, at least for me it did on the horizontal scrolls. I couldn’t do “360º’s” scrolls either.

We used have to clean dirty mouseballs and rollers before optical mice came along, so I don’t know how this will fair.

I think a hard ball with some sort of optical or magnetic recognition would be better. This way a lot of grime buildup can be eliminated from getting into the “works” by a tight seal between the ball and the innerds.

Nice idea, just a bit more tweaking though.

I can’t wait for mine to arrive on Friday — I ordered it from Apple as soon as it was announced. Ever since I got used to two-finger scrolling with my PowerBook, the lack of any-direction scrolling on my scroll wheel mouse has been driving me nuts.
