Citrix Systems’ working on ‘GoToMyMac’ remote access software compatible with ‘GoToMyPC’

“Citrix Systems’ GoToMyPC remote PC access software division is mulling the launch of an Apple Macintosh version, which could enable users to access Macintosh computers remotely, even from non-Macintosh machines… GoToMyPC currently enables users to gain remote access to Windows PCs. It enables a user to access their remote PC as if they were sitting in front of it, including the ability to run applications hosted on the remote PC and transfer files between the remote PC and the client they happen to be sitting in front of. That client can already include not only Windows PCs but also most desktops that support a browser, including Macs and Linux desktops, PocketPC mobile clients and more,” Jason Stamper writes for ComputerWire.

“But the remote computer – the host – must currently be a Windows PC, since Apple Mac or any other non-Windows hosts are unsupported. But in an interview with ComputerWire, GoToMyPC’s product line manager Jason Randall confirmed that the company is working on a version that would support Mac hosts, and the functionality could find its way into the next major upgrade, version 6, expected some time next year,” Stamper writes. “The move would be a real plus for Mac users…”

  1. Been doing this for ages with OSXvnc & Chicken of the VNC. They’re free as well.

    Move along, nothing to see.

MW: around, as in this stuff have been around for ages on OS X.

  2. Hey, don’t knock it! Another Windows-only software producer coming over to Mac. Trumpet it from the rooftops. And we’re not going to create “switchers” with obscure freeware, it’s going to take boxes filling shelves at CompUSA and the like…

  3. If you know anything about Citrix, it offers features not available anywhere else on the Windows Platform. On the surface, it seems the same but in reality, Citrix products are far from it.

*An SSL-encrypted Web site and Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) encryption using 128-bit keys ensure the privacy of all remote connections.
*The GoToMyPC Corporate Administration Center allows administrators to control end-user security settings.
*Citrix Online has achieved SiteSecure Certification from TruSecure Corporation

This is more of corporate product than any other.

  4. Sounds cool to me. The more products that support Mac, the better. This trend will only increase as the tide is turning and we should see some major gains in Market share this year.

  5. Does OS X support the “remote desktop client” concept – multiple user desktops running simultaneously out of a single box? Sure, you can ssh in, but what about an entire gui desktop?

  6. Of course, if you’ve got a machine running XP, Windows Remote Desktop from your Mac is the most rad thing ever.

MDN Magic Word “system” as in when I needed a Winblows system I ran it headless and controlled it straight from my Mac system.
