Thurrott: ‘Mac users have made conscious technology choice and are therefore better informed’

Paul Thurrott, in his Internet-Nexus blog, reports on a story about how Firefox users click through to Web site ads four to five times less often than do users of Microsoft’s Internet Explorer, a German Web-advertising firm said Friday.

Thurrott, writes, “I’m sure what it boils down to is that Firefox users are smarter, in general, than IE users. One might compare Firefox users to Mac users in this case: Like Mac OS users, Firefox users have made a conscious technology choice and are therefore typically better informed than their peers.”

  1. >Just to add to clarify my point: it’s like saying “Thurott is making
    >sense, so hell must have frozen over.”

That happened last October when the Red Sox won the World Series!

iPod isn’t even on the top 10 phrase list and is #10 on the top ten keyword list.

I’m willing to cut you slack and assume that it may have changed since you visited, but it is on the top Keyword list:
    #10. “pod 1325 0.8 %”

“of” and “the” beat it out, the only other non-sex search terms that beat it out were “gmail” and “bittorrent” and “invite.”

I don’t think Apple has anything to worry about.

Also, on the note about hosting on Linux vs. OS X, I’ve yet to see MDN attack Linux. Windows, MS, MS appologists, IE, yeah.. but not Linux. So I don’t really see the issue here. They don’t do their own hosting, someone does it for them, so whatever is cheapest and fits their needs best seems like a good idea.

  3. Y’know, I thought enough people here would have cottoned to the fact that Thurrott is a media whore. He plays to his audience, period. This guy is the Rush Limbaugh of the tech press. Hasn’t anyone noticed that he only badmouths Apple and Macs on his Wininfo site? He has no credibility whatsoever in my eyes; even if he praises Macs and iPods on other sites I don’t believe a word he says.
