Apple’s global 50th anniversary celebrations are building toward a potentially historic finale — with strong indications that a legendary British Invasion performer will take the stage at Apple Park this week.

According to Bloomberg News‘ Mark Gurman, the private grand finale at Apple Park in Cupertino, California will feature a British Invasion icon, sparking widespread speculation that Paul McCartney could be set to perform for the milestone event.

The event is likely scheduled for Tuesday, March 31st. A telling clue has surfaced: the Apple Park Visitor Center website now lists the store’s hours for that day as 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. PT — closing a full four hours earlier than its normal 7 p.m. schedule.

MacDailyNews Take: Hey, maybe it’s Ringo? Apple Park is a giant ring, after all. 😉

Okay, maybe not, but how about both Paul and Ringo?

Steve Jobs, whose deep love for The Beatles was well-known and often reflected in Apple’s music-centric products and events, couldn’t hide his excitement when the Fab Four finally made their long-awaited debut on the iTunes Store.

In November 2010, after years of negotiations and what Jobs himself described as “a long and winding road,” The Beatles’ entire catalog arrived on iTunes. Jobs, then Apple’s CEO, personally issued a statement that captured his genuine enthusiasm: “We love the Beatles and are honored and thrilled to welcome them to iTunes. It has been a long and winding road to get here. Thanks to the Beatles and EMI, we are now realizing a dream we’ve had since we launched iTunes ten years ago.”

For Jobs, a man who frequently played Beatles tracks before major product launches and who had famously settled the long-running trademark dispute with Apple Corps years earlier, bringing the band’s music to Apple’s platform was more than just a business milestone. It was a personal triumph and a fulfillment of a decade-long vision for digital music distribution.

The arrival of The Beatles on iTunes marked one of the final major holdouts joining the service, cementing iTunes as the world’s leading digital music platform at the time.

Fast-forward to today, and that same passion Steve Jobs had for The Beatles may soon be echoing through Apple Park, providing a fitting, unforgettable finale at Apple Park this week. Steve, one can only imagine, would have been ecstatic.

Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr have rarely performed together live on stage since The Beatles’ breakup in 1970.

  1. I watched a YouTube video of him singing a Beatles song. I don’t care who you are, an 83 year old voice is not going to be the same as a 23 year old voice. In that video, I heard an aging “rocker” whose time had come to hang it up. High notes forget about it, voice strains a plenty, off key multiple times. Sure the instrumentals were solid, still there, but the singing performance was surely lacking and the only thrill one could say is they saw Paul McCartney live in concert. If it is a free show, then sure, I would go. If I was expected to pay to hear an aging hipster sing off tune, well, I would stand up and walk out on him!

Hey Paul, it’s not too late to go to Library and learn something and make something of yourself!

That comment of mine was in reference to Paul making a retarded comment, during a June 2010 White House performance, Paul McCartney said, “After the last eight years, it’s good to have a president that knows what a library is”. The comment, made while accepting the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize from President Obama, was seen as a swipe at George W. Bush.

Let’s see, George W. Bush graduated Yale, had a higher GPA at Yale during first three years, 77 for Bush versus 71 for the haughty future Democratic Sen. John Kerry. What college did you graduate Paul? Bush graduated Harvard Business School with an M.B.A. degree, and is the only U.S. president to have earned the degree. Joined the Air Force learned to fly and flew the The Convair F-102. Leave it to Democrat Terry McAuliffe, to say Bush got preferential treatment. Now do Joe Biden, Terry. Whether that is true or not, does not negate getting strapped into an aluminum tube with a jet engine behind your tail which is not inherently without it’s dangers. You got a pilot’s license Paul? Bush established Arbusto Energy, a small oil exploration company. What happened to your Apple Corp business, Paul? I guess “All you need is love” is just empty words. Bush became Governor of Texas and POTUS, a leader of a whole country. Maybe you were president too, Paul? Of your local chapter of The Beatles fan club perhaps?

So, again, I reiterate, it is not too late to go to library Paul and make something of yourself beside a musician with a mop top hairdo going around the world hogging for the camera, shaking your head singing “Ooooohhh”. Fast forward and Paul is wearing a tee shirt at his Moscow concert saying “End Landmines” because everyone is anxious to hear what Paul’s geopolitical standing is on such matters, and of course, we see how much power of persuasion Paul has, as landmines are still used. See Ukraine vs Russia.

Enjoy your show Cupertino campus employees.
