Apple introduced a more reliable and efficient Home architecture in 2022, and the deadline to upgrade is now rapidly approaching.

This week, Apple sent customers a final reminder via email: upgrade your Home app by February 10, 2026, to avoid problems.

Failing to upgrade may cause:
• Issues with accessories and automations
• Complete loss of access to your smart home through the Home app

Additionally, non-upgraded users will miss out on:
• Newer features (such as support for robot vacuum cleaners)
• Important security updates
• Performance improvements

Joe Rossignol for MacRumors:

Apple explains how to upgrade the Home app on the iPhone, iPad, or Mac:

• Open the Home app
• Tap or click on the three dots in the upper-right and navigate to Home Settings
• Tap or click on Software Update
• Tap or click Update Now, then follow the prompts. All of the homes that you own are updated at the same time.

If you see “This home and all accessories are up to date,” then you are on the current version of the app and no further action is required.

MacDailyNews Note: The new version of Apple Home requires a minimum of iOS 16.2, iPadOS 16.2, macOS 13.1, tvOS 16.2, and watchOS 9.2.

  1. I’m sorry, but the Home App still really sucks. Lipstick on a NeXt box?

It has mystified me that this anti-intuitive app would not get a complete recode and allow iOS & macOS to share all the same knobs and settings. The macOS app is so hobbled that you can’t even turn down the volume on a HomePod using it. I mean, seriously? WTF, Apple?!?

Home Automation is big and will only get bigger. Apple just doesn’t seem to see that, or doesn’t care. It could be beyond amazing, and perhaps make folks forget how lame Siri is? And CarPlay?

I’m not a Timo basher, but the buck’s gotta stop there. Apple missed AI, and I’m starting to agree with MDN’s take on the lack of vision there.
