Spotify again jacks up subscription prices in the U.S.

Spotify has just announced price hikes in the U.S., Estonia, and Latvia — the company’s third U.S. increase in under three years.

In the United States, all major Premium plans are going up:

• Individual Premium: $11.99 → $12.99/month
• Student: $5.99 → $6.99/month
• Duo (2 accounts): $16.99 → $18.99/month
• Family (up to 6 accounts): $19.99 → $21.99/month

The changes take effect for new subscribers immediately, with existing subscribers seeing the new rates at their next billing cycle.

Hartley Charlton for MacRumors:

This latest increase is the third time Spotify has raised U.S. subscription prices since mid-2023. In July 2023, Spotify implemented its first U.S. price hike since launching in the country in 2011, increasing the Individual Premium plan from its long-standing $9.99 monthly price. A second increase followed in June 2024, bringing the Individual plan to $11.99 per month. The January 2026 change moves that price another dollar higher, continuing a pattern of more frequent adjustments after more than a decade of unchanged pricing.

Outside the United States, Spotify has also raised prices in recent years. The company increased subscription costs in multiple international markets in August 2025, and previously raised prices in regions including the United Kingdom and Switzerland.

MacDailyNews Take: More great news for the superior Apple Music streaming service which includes high-resolution lossless audio (up to 24-bit/192kHz) and Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos at no extra cost. Spotify’s max quality remains at 320kbps (compressed), and while they’ve teased a HiFi/lossless tier for years, it still isn’t widely available in 2026.

Apple Music pricing:

• Individual: $10.99/month, first month free for new subscribers
• Student: $5.99/month, first month free for new subscribers
• Family (up to five people): $16.99/month, one month free for new subscribers
