At the dawn of 2026, Apple TV+’s recently canceled thriller “The Last Frontier” is defying expectations by maintaining a strong presence on the platform’s global streaming charts. Despite Apple abruptly axing the Jason Clarke-led series after its single season concluded in December 2025, the show — centered on a U.S. Marshal facing chaos after a prison plane crash in remote Alaska — continues to captivate audiences worldwide, proving that cancellation doesn’t always mean the end of a show’s momentum.

Deana Carpenter for CBR:

As of Jan. 6, per FlixPatrol, “The Last Frontier,” from creators Jon Bokenkamp and Richard D’Ovidio, is the No. 2 most-watched television series on Apple TV worldwide.

The Last Frontier debuted its first and only season in October 2025. The show has a 48% Rotten Tomatoes critic score and a 51% audience score. Apple TV abruptly canceled the series following its Season 1 finale in December 2025.

The show, in spite of its poor reviews, had been a ratings hit for Apple TV. The cast of The Last Frontier, in addition to Clarke, included [Haley Bennett], Simone Kessell, Dallas Goldtooth, Tait Blum, and Alfre Woodard.

      1. Apple has been running on momentum rather than innovation since Steve Jobs left us. I find it hard to believe that out of all the innovative/product minded people in the US, or the world that Apples board of directors couldn’t find a better candidate for the role than care taker Tim. Tim was very good at getting all the product supply trains to run on time for Apple manufacturing but when it comes to narrowing down the product choices put in front of him to make a decision on which would be the best pick to pour Apples product release budget into to make that a market ready winner…Tim is NOT your guy. He’s also not the only guy in America that could do the job.

  1. I enjoyed this show, lots of action, some nice plot twists. Sure, like most action shows, there were a few “leaps of logic” but overall, highly enjoyable.

Also didn’t feel like there were “side quests,” i.e. episodes that added nothing to the main plot. So many current mini-series (Disney!) take a two hour movie and squeeze it into an 8 episode mini-series that lasts six hours.

  2. It started out well decently enough – so I thought…. Then it devolved into some stupid action stuff where helicopters are chained to a convict transport vehicle and a cliff? Seriously?!

Then it’s about the hero Ranger’s son and his girlfriend. Then a bit about his family tension and a “secret” and a prisoner who is James Bond 5x that is 15 moves ahead? What?!

Finally topped off with a maniacal and horribly acted DC woman and her evil loyal team running everything – of course.

Oh. Let’s not forget the agent gal we never know if we can trust or not trust – teased out all series long and is -“shocker” – married to the James Bond villain or good guy or whatever he is.

It was Netflix bad. After the first two episodes I would FF watch it utter amusement and gag reflex at the same time, wondering how on earth Apple got suckered into this one?!… my only thought on that? Somewhere in the Apple TV exec sphere is a Netflix wanna-be!

Do not waste your time. You’ll likely burn 27 – 53 minutes of partly watching it, FF-ing it, and turning it off, that is precious life you’ll never get back.
